| I am purchasing a new Yorkie Puppy soon. Is she purebred? Hi, I am considering purchasing a female Yorkie puppy from a local seller. The puppy is female, just 1.8 lb, and has her ears up already. Based in her colors and hair, can any experienced owners tell me if she's purebred? Also, can you predict how she will look once she becomes adult (e.g. long hair vs short hair)? I've attached a few pictures of her. Thank you!! |

| Welcome to YT, she looks yorkie to me. Kinda hard to look at a pic and say she is 100 % pure breed, even in person they can look 100% and be mixed, but she sure looks 100% yorkie to me, she just adorable.

| She looks like a full yorkie, but no one can guarantee how the pup will look full grown, not even the breeder. To get a better idea, you should see the parents of the pup. Mixed dogs can also look like a purebreed too. And esp with yorkies, since they look so different once they mature, you really won't know what you get unless you get an adult. Also if the puppy is AKC registered then you can track the lineage. If it's not AKC, you cannot trust what is written on those papers. Registries such as ACA, CKC (Continental, not Canadian), APRI, etc do not have any rules or regulations about what dog you can register as what. They just take a check in the amount they charge and a form filled out. Not even a photo of the dog.

| Thanks everyone, I wrongly believed a trained eye could easily tell apart a mixed breed from a purebred yorkie. Unfortunately, she does not have AKC papers. I may consider adopting, it's just that her asking price is that of a purebred. Again, thank you all!! |

| Full price with no papers? The seller is a thief.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | You would be better off buying a papered puppy. You get the full medical history. The breeder is cutting corners, not good in my humble opinion. |

| If the seller is asking more than a few hundred dollars, when yes I agree with the above, the seller is a thief.

| In my opinion, no papers means not a pure bred puppy. Is it a person selling the puppy. If so, check out where they are being raised. Could be getting a mill puppy if your not able to see there current home. I wouldn't pay more then 200$ for a un-papered puppy. Make sure you know what your buying. Mill puppies are cute but have health problems in how they are raised. Good luck |

| No papers means bad breeder which means bad expensive health issues could be in her future. If you want to adopt going to a yorkie rescue or shelter. If you want to buy a pup go to a reputable breeder.

| That would be a red flag for me. Pay a little extra for one that comes from a reputable breeder, one that shows them. Do your homework before deciding. Good luck. Keep us posted. Oh, and who took those pictures? They are all blurred. Just wondering. If the breeder took them, that is another red flag. Reputable breeders usually don't even advertise, and is they show you pictures, they will be very clear and great pictures! Go on the AKC web site to find breeders. Get a healthy one and you won't be sorry.

YT 1000 Club Member | She looks like a purebred yorkie, but as others have stated there are plenty of mixes who look like purebreds as well so there's no way to be sure unless she's had a DNA test done. Do you trust your breeder? If you have to question whether or not a puppy you're planning on buying is purebred then this may not be the puppy/breeder for you. I've only heard of dogs not having papers for a few reasons: 1) the parents were given limited registry and the breeder didn't have rights to register/breed 2) they're mixed and the AKC won't register them 3) the breeder is cutting corners cost wise and doesn't want to pay to register the litter (registering a litter is not expensive) *there are other registries other than AKC that this breeder could have used |
