| I am getting so scared for my Spicey(long post) I have spent the past 3 days reading posts to page 50, it seems there are so many illness' and operations for different things. Spicey was a gift to me and I had no idea (and I dont believe my sons did) how they have so many medical issues. I am so afraid Spicey will have something go wrong and I cant afford the vet. I am on SS and cant even afford to buy my baby the clothes she needs. She was 6 mo yesterday and I have had her a month and am totally in love with her. Such a sweet and smart baby. She was 2.5 when I got her and she is 2.7 in a month. I am very seriously thinking of the pet insurance mentioned so much! I mean 50 a month would sure beat a 500 bill or more at one time. I have it narrowed down to 2. I so wish my sons had of been more knowledgeable before getting her. Or had let me know so I could have read up on yorkies. I have an 8 yr old terrier/chi mix that I rescued with diabetes . I love her like one of my children. I feel she has been put aside by me this past month ,even tho I make it a point to have mommy Sugar time. I still have to keep her in my bedroom with a gate in the doorway when Spice is out and about, playing , learning and me training her. They will play maybe 5 min and Spice starts the little nipping at the legs and jumping on Sugar. Sugar has also became blind by the diabetes and I think Spice scares her more than anything. I almost stand over them when they are playing as I would just die if Sugar would accidently hurt little Spice. Sugar is 13 lbs and Spice 2.7 !! I guess I just needed to put my fears in writing and read it and maybe I will get my own answer what to do. Are there ever any Yorkies that dont have the medical problems?? So far my vet has said she is in great condition and has very good little muscles for one so small. Spice will be laser spayed March 3 and will have her pre-op blood work prior so maybe I will know a little more then. You here on this forum have been such a wonderful help to me and have answered every ? I have had , all a person needs to do it go back and read read read and most all the answers are right there! Thank you for having this forum. |

| Don't get in too much of a panic, I have had yorkies since I was young, they don't don't all have health issues in fact they have a long lifespan we had one that was 15 with never a days illness until she passed, the insurance is a good idea, just in case of emergencies. Enjoy having your little one .I think it's a good idea to have supervised play with your Chi as pups an be quite rambunctious and get carried away playing and nipping sometimes.

| It's difficult when you get them at first as they seem so small, and vulnerable, but they can be healthy little furbutts , as they can run rings around you at first.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I was also in a panic for a month or so when I first got my puppy. Someone here pointed out that those people with healthy puppies don't need to post questions. There are almost 500 babies that belong to member on this site, or maybe more, but only a small number post health issues. When you look at the AKC website and look at Yorkie health, they actually say they are pretty healthy and live long lives. With that said, I would still recommend pet insurance because even without health issues, accidents happen. Health insurance allows you the comfort in knowing you can properly care for your little one no matter what your concern may be. Since I get free office visits, I can see the vet whenever I have a concern. I really like that feeling. |

| Our Dexter is now 9 months old and he's been with us for 6 months. He was a rescue and we knew NOTHING about Yorkies or toy breeds so we were learning on the fly. Yorkietalk kept coming up in every search for every question I posed to Google so I quickly figured out this was the place to be! Having such a wee pup (he was 3.4 lbs when we got him at 13 weeks) was nerve wracking in the beginning. He seemed so fragile! But our little Dexter was a very engaging and friendly and active pup...we're very lucky. He's been relatively easy to train as he's very praise and treat oriented, although at times we suspect he's training us His health has been great, the biggest trauma was his reaction to his rabies and distemper shots (He was pretty lethargic and not wanting to be touched for about 24-36 hours). So, all in all, we are both head over heels for this new wee family member and we wouldn't change a thing. He's happy, healthy, affectionate, funny, loving and still growing like a weed. We're up to 9 lbs now so not sure how big he'll end up being Enjoy your baby! |

| I live by the motto "Hope for the best but prepare for the worst". Pet insurance is a good idea. I have it too. Nothing in life is guaranteed. Enjoy your little one try not to think of the "what ifs". |

| All you can do is prepare for the worst and pray for the best. You can't change it so don't waste time worrying about what you can't change. I think the insurance is a good idea. Before I knew better when I got my puppy it turned out that she came from a puppy mill. She has had to have knee surgery on both back legs, has food allergies, has environmental allergy's, collapsing trachea, hypothyroidism and the list goes on. I just enjoy the time I have with her and take as best care of her as I possibly can. This is why I am such an advocate of stopping bad breeders and puppy mills because a lot of people don't research before getting a puppy and end up getting on from a bad breeder or puppy mill and end up with a pup that ends up having genetic issues and such. Sometimes these pups just get thrown away when issues pop up, some get there issues ignored and so on but we must always remember it's the humans fault not the pups.

| Thank you thank you thank you !!!! I should have realized a person isnt going to ask ? about health if there is nothing wrong and I guess really having a tiny baby is not much different than having my 13 lb Sugar , other than the extra caution factor ! LOL Since Sugar is a special needs furbutt I dont know why I am so afraid Spice may have problems in the future! I think at times I get overwhelmed with worry over my girls. The one thing I noticed gong back 50 pages on this thread is there almost the same questions and concerns being asked. And I also noticed the admins have taken wonderful care in addressing them in the different sections. So I for one will do more reading in those areas and I am sure to calm myself ! LOL |

| I so hate to see you worrying so much. I have three very healthy Yorkies. I still worry, but I try to enjoy their company most of all. I think it's great that you have both Sugar and Spice in your life. What a wonderful thing you are doing, caring for them with such concern and tender love. Congratulations!

| When Spice had her first (with me) vet appt , the vet did say I need to watch her back legs as they did like to get out of place which could cause problems, but she said hers seemed just fine. She also mentioned to watch Spices lower tummy to make sure it didnt bloat on one side or the other or both. But for now she is fine. I do not want to ask for trouble in any way but with having Sugar and her needs I am cautious about little Spice. I also have talked with my son since posting this and he said he will do the research needed for insurances and he said we will wait til after Spice has her blood tests in a couple weeks and go from there. So with you alls help and sweet comments and my sons assurance that we will do what is best I feel much much better! |

| My first yorkie was blessed with excellent health. Not one medical issue ever until she was ran over by a car and trust me, that tragedy had nothing to do with her being a yorkie. My new baby Mia is 7 months old and healthy as can be. Have not had one medical concern with her either. I say knowledge is power and by all means, educate yourself fully so you can be prepared for anything that might come but don't let fear rob you of the joy of these wonderful dogs. |
