| how are we doing? advice? suggestions? At 18 weeks, Bruiser is 3.05 lbs. He gets a scoop (1/3) of Wellness Puppy a day. He rarely eats it all. Still not potty trained, but far as I can tell, not having accidents on carpets. Seems like he holds his pee and waits to go out, but will poop absolutely anywhere. I'm clueless on training. I bought these little treats called train-me that he loves. I don't know if be understands " sit " or just sits to get his treat but that is where we have started. He goes with us nearly every where when we aren't going to work. But ever since the last vet visit, doesn't care much for riding and shakes the whole time. It breaks my heart. It's getting cold out, so we haven't ventured the dog park yet; but I worry about his affinity for poop. If it came out of a butt, he will eat it if I don't catch him first. He's a rambunctious puppy, that's nervous when I'm out of eye shot when we are at my parents home or anywhere other than home. I don't know how to ease this anxiety. Accepting perspective and or suggestions. Tks!

| 35 + years of having these little critters I haven't changed in the sense, when I took / take my pups/ pup with me to someones house, I feel it's never a visit. If my dog / dogs were not with in my vision, I would go look for them / him. My girls all now past were always into some sort of mischief lol and needed to be watched carefully. My little adopted boy is not a mischief maker but I still watch him like a hawk, make sure he doesn't find something on the floor and eat it.You know how some ppl who don't own dogs, drop a pill, can't find it, but they know eventually it will turn up, well I don't want it to turn up in my dogs mouth, so I watch him. I don't think this ever ends as long as we have these little babies. As far as poop eating, one of my past girls ate cat poop that she found in the woods behind my neighbors house, this was years back, she would at times eat her poop!!!!! but never another dogs or her sister's when she was alive, so I am of no help on how not to have your pup eat poop at the dog park. Since your last visit to the vet, take your pup as often as you can in the car. I found when I moved to the country my dogs didn't go in the car as often as they did when I lived in the city. The only time they went in the car was to the vet and the groomers, so they associated the car with the horror of vet or groomer. I started taking them to the bank, or if I had to run into the pharmacy, I would even just drive around my community, just to show them not every car trip ended at the vet or the groomer, I do the same for my lil boy. I have to drive about 1/2 mile to collect my mail, and I'll take him with me. Your baby may shake because he thinks he's going to the vet, just a thought. Good luck.

| Have you tried putting his poo where you want him to go? If you can get him to eat pineapple that will help with the poo eating. Have you tried giving him treats in the car periodically? Is he in like a carrier in the car, a dog car seat or what?

| My puppy Reese (16 weeks) used to get car sick every single time we got in the car. I started giving him Benadryl when we would go in the car, but over the past 2 weeks he has completely stopped and I don't need it anymore. I honestly think that the car ride was so foreign to him that it would make him sick with anxiety. I also take him to my BF's house which is a 30 min ride and I take him to puppy play time on Saturday's at Petco for an hour. We just started getting the rhythm of housebreaking over this past week, which includes me taking him out every 2 hours (over the weekend) because I know he will have to pee. The pee pads were driving me NUTS with the smell, I couldn't take them anymore. I even bought one of those real patches of grass which he determined he would rather eat than use for the potty. Have you figured out when your puppy usually goes to the bathroom? I know that Reese poops at 5:30AM when I take him out, 11:00 when I take him out during my lunch break from work, and then 7:30 or 8PM. If I take him out before 7:30, he won't poop. I also started putting him in the crate when I leave for short periods of time since I know he won't pee in there. He's in an expen when I'm at work. The peeing was the biggest problem for me, but now I think I'm getting the hang of it. This is my first puppy/dog which I'm doing on my own and the learning curve is huge! |

| I have tried putting the poo where I want it. He's oblivious. He never used to tremble in the car. Except after the vet. When he went for his puppy shots then a couple weeks later his rabies and it was like he knew he was going to the vet. Was trembling from home till home, both times. Even though he's been in there close to at least once a day every day since we got him. The trips about town in between vet visits were no problem, but for certainty since rabies vac, he hates riding in the car. He never cared for the carrier crate, so I don't use it. I think maybe when I picked him up and the first vet visit, but never since. He's a lap puppy. He refuses any treats in the car. Even the vet had tried to give him a treat "so he won't feel his shot" but when he is that 'I'm scared mom save me' mode, he wants nothing. As for the poop, it's cat or deer/bear poo. Not his own.

| I devised a doggie booster chair by putting a pillow wrapped in fabric in a small laundry basket. Then I strapped it in the front with the seat belt. I hooked Izzie's harness to a leash and wrapped the other end around the head rest. It allows her a height adjustment to see outside which she loves, lets her stand and move, yet the be safe. Just a suggestion to help your dog enjoy riding. Every now and then, Izzie needs to be reminded that pee and poo are outdoor activities. If I find pee/poo puddles, I stick her in the crate/pen and keep her movements to a minimum. So she only goes from pen, to outside to poo/pee, to my lap, back to crate/pen, repeat... She just needs a reminder. She is so smart, she gets it. I think she is just checking to see how consistent I will be. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Maybe he's just cold? As for the poop eating I was once told that they don't see it the same way we do to us it's nasty to them it's a form of food. I think it's a tough habit to break, I would assume some how you would have to make it taste nasty . Good luck these little yorkie s are tough and stubborn, I know mine is.

| Teddy has the same problems - he shakes in the car, is nervous around people and never wants me out of his sight. Your Bruiser will either grow out of it with constant exposure or he won't. It's probably still too early to tell so I'd keep doing what you're doing ie taking him everywhere with you, making him go in the car (don't bother with treats if he's not receptive - praise and pats are as good as treats) and exposing him to new and different situations. If he's still doing this in a few months, come back to me and I will tell you exactly what my vet told me or you can read some of it here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...my-others.html Take this info I received re: Teddy to you with your vet and see if they agree/disagree/want to elaborate based on your situation etc. As far as the other things, I'm sorry I can't help! I was fortunate enough to have Teddy potty trained at 14 weeks and he never ate poop! |
