| Anyone ever had a grieving Yorkie? Some of you may know that my Maddie passed away last week. Since then, there have been many changes in Monkey. I expected this...I know animals grieve too. I'm just concerned because he is starting to shake a lot...as if he were freezing. He does this when he's laying down, whether he's asleep or not. He often lays by the door shaking. Right now he's laying on my desk by my keyboard and shivering. It's not cold in here at all. The shivering stops as soon as I put my hand on him or pet him and starts back instantly when I stop. Is this because he hasn't been eating as much? Is it simply something dogs do when they grieve. It's as if he were weeping really hard, only without the tears. Is this possible? I feel so bad for him.

| I'm so sorry that he's having such a hard time with this...I know that doggies do grieve, and it will probably take some time for him to get over this. Just make sure he's eating and drinking and give him lots and lots of love. Again, I am so sorry about Maddie.

| Mollie & Wyatt have been grieving some since I had to have Precious put to sleep on Friday. I'm sure it would be harder on them if they did not have each other. Wyatt does keep looking for her. The first thing that he would do of the morning before I could get him to go outside was go in the living room and wake her up. It just takes time. I'm sure when you get the little one home and he has a chance to get use to her he will do better. Just be patient.

| I'm so sorry, yes Monkey is grieving. Princess did the same thing when we lost Roxanne. Princess has Poncho to play with, but she kept looking for Roxanne. Last March we found a good breeder and got Mandy. Mandy plays with Princess just like Roxanne did. But even now two years later, she will get upset over one of Roxannes toys. It takes time for them just as it is for us. They really do have big hearts. Please give Monkey a big YT hug. Maddie will forever live in both your hearts.

| loss I have made some grieve for one of the lost ones. My vet told me when possible, to allow a mother to see the dead pup..smell it and give her time to realize it was dead, then she will give it up more easily then having it disappear. Same with adults. I allow them to see the dead body of a lost friend or relative. Smell it and then magically they know it is dead. They seem to accept it better then humans. I have had some look for a lost one when they did not have the chance to see it die. I had a small girl named KC..she was only 3 pounds. She never left her mother for 9 years. When Kate went to get her teeth cleaned, KC had to go along also or she would sit by the door whining or pacing..when Kate had a new litter, KC had to stay in the bed with them or she whined non-stop. I could not take her in the car without her mother. When Katie was ill...and it was for 3 days before her death. I allowed KC to be with her..when Katie ahd to go to be put down I brought her body home and allowed KC to be with her mother ..she walked around the body laying on a blanket smelling her for about 2 or 3 minutes..then she walked away. She never acted the way she did in the past..she never whined or looked for her. Within a week or so she attached herself to a girl named Ashley and lived another happy 5 yrs. |

I didn't think of this. It does make total sense. It would have given him some closure. Unfortunately, it's too late now. However, I look forward to him getting to know the puppy Maddie left us. She has quite some time to go before she's able to be around Monkey as she is only 8 days old. I'm not sure how he will take to the new little girl while he's still missing Maddie...then again, who knows...maybe he'll be better by then. I've read that you should not introduce a canine to a newcomer until it is completely over the loss of it's loved one. He is a really sweet boy and I don't think he would ever hurt a fly, but I still want to get him neutered before they start to play together. Sometimes stud males don't like puppies and I don't want to take the chance of him hurting her. I want them to be happy together and I think the first few days/weeks are a large part in determining what kind of relationship they will have. If Monkey is mean, she will either be afraid and unhappy or she will develope a mean and defensive personality. I'm not an expert or anything. I'm just going by my own thoughts on it. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject?
