| I paid 600 for Baxter 5 weeks ago here in Iowa. I went on how healthy he was and disposition, and looks. He is absolutly too cute has a great bite and lovely hair, is blue and gold and Akc registered. I think it is all in what a person wants. I just wanted a good friendly smart funny cute well behaved puppy. Thats what I got, well, the well behaved part most of the time. He still gets those little devil horns sometimes Oh Baxter also came with health warranty and everything. |

| I would never advise to choose price over health, but I know that since the cost of living varies so much from one area of the country to the next, that that affects the cost of yorkies. I imagine vet bills and the cost of supplies are more expensive in areas such as CA, so that drives up the cost of buying a yorkie puppy. I want new members to see that if they look outside of their area that there are affordable puppies available. |

| Cost of yorkies - Difficulty finding a good breeder I am glad you brought this topic up. I have been searching for a male yorkie puppy and I see a wide range of prices. I am most concerned that the puppy is as healthy as possible and exhibits the basic features of the breed. It is so confusing. Some of the dogs that cost more money are not being bred by experienced breeders or have champion bloodlines so it doesn't really make sense to me that they cost more. I don't know what to do! If anyone knows of a good breeder in North/Central Florida with reasonably priced healthy yorkies please contact me. Thanks! Lisa

| I am almost embarassed to post. I KNOW I was taken and went ahead anyway. My Ginger that passed this summer was 15 yrs. I paid $350. for her and thought that was SOOOOOOOOO much $$ back then. When I searched for Mari, I wanted a tiny. The ones that specialize in tinies see you coming. I paid $2500. Shame on me. I knew it was way too much but I fell in love. I liked the breeder. I spent time in her home. Now, however I would do more searching. My husband is pissed! Mostly because she has definate flaws. Her tail is docked too short. Her legs are too long, her hair isn't what it should be but let me tell you she IS a lovie and I love her. When my husband makes note on 'those legs' I just reply that 'we paid extra for those long legs!' I swear she looks like a jack rabbit running! It makes me just laugh makes him go He's just way to critical! |

| I sure have a story about when we got Sweetie. Four years ago my husband saw an add in the "IWANNA" for a female yorkie, 6 mos. old, 2.5 lbs - $600. He called and found the people had purchased her from a breeder and when they took her to the vet they told them she was too small to breed - so they were selling her. We met them at a McDonalds and we ended up trading a German Rueger rifle for her. Got the papers and called her breeder - she had been sold 3 weeks earlier at 3.5 lbs. and with the promise that they wouldn't breed her. She had lost a pound in 3 weeks - we suspect they kept her in a crate except to feed her (from their conversations). We had her spayed and she is now a healthy 6.2 lbs. If we had known she would be such a nice size we wouldn't have had her spayed. While we knew what to look for in a yorkie (teeth, straight back, etc.) we really lucked out getting such a fine pet. Can you imagine if the police had pulled up at McDonalds on a rainy Tuesday night and we were showing guns in the back of our Honda hatchback? In general yorkie puppies run around $1200 here now. |

CentralNewYorki, you said that you looked at a Yorkie in Ohio for $850. Would you mind PMing me with where the breeder was located? I live in Ohio and am interested in getting another Yorkie, a female this time. I am having trouble finding a breeder near me with females for a price in my range. Thank you very much in advance. | |

| I only paid $400 for Gracie. Her father is AKC registered and her mom is UKC, so the breeder initially told me that I couldn't get papers for her and that's why she was so inexpensive. Later I found out that I could get papers for her through APR and CKC.

| I have to agree with some here. I think that the advertised prices are set based on 2 main factors: 1) the 'going rate' in the area, which for what I can tell seems to be different depending on the area of the country you live in, and 2) the costs incurred by the breeder. I have no clue if breeders profit or not, really, I couldn't care less nor do I know or care what it cost for each individual breeder to raise a litter of pups. I would assume that since no two breeding practices are the same, no two set of costs would be the same? It would seem only right though that a breeder charge an amount that will at least keep them "in the green" when possible, otherwise, it is like you are paying others to get one of your puppies. |
