| definitely keep an eye on petfinder.com, local shelters listings, or even the newspapers. i noticed that since christmas there's been more listings for puppies at shelters...people who got puppies for christmas are now finding that they're in way over their heads, or they'll realize that in the next month. the honeymoon of having a cute little puppy will be overriden by the responsibility and will start trying to get rid of their puppies for one reason or another and you'll be able to pick up some good deals. good luck! |

| We got our male from a breeder not too far from us for $800, and her females, I think, are $900. Her web site is sandhillspuppypaws.com (I have no clue how to set up a link). However, she may have pups that aren't posted so if your interested give her a call and ask. I know that when I went there that there were quite a few not on the site. I toured her entire place and everything looked on the up and up. Also give me a couple of months and I may have one to sell. Two of ours were really into it this morning and my other female is just coming in.

| Comment First off, I don't know what you are talking about but you show me a breeder that will sell a yorkie pup for less than $1,000. For my own personal benefit and to pass on to others, seriously. Secondly, you and others should not knock pet stores, I in no way would misguide anyone with regard to my experience. My experience is what it is, pleasant. I ranted and raved about QC because I saw it for myself and just like you said most people would speak against a pet store and I do understand that but there are exceptions, to not buy from a pet store is not a rule and if it is, whose is it, please let me know? It's just like saying all apples are bad, not true My advice was to spark objectives, the decision to purchase a pup is a life altering decision. If I sound rude, not my intent, excuse my frankness. And yes I am from NY so with the bad rep we get, I guess that's why you felt the need to write your post, no offense taken. Appreciate your comments.

I'll pose the question in the General discussion board as to who was able to purchase a yorkie for less than $1,000. I think you'll be suprised at how many people have purchased yorkies for less than $1,000. Believe me, I didn't get Olivia for less than $1,000 because I was looking primarily in NY and NJ primarily for a breeder, but there are plenty out there. Pet stores, for the most part, get their puppies from brokers (who get them from puppy mills) or get them directly from puppy mills. It's a fact. There are a few smaller pet stores that don't do this, but a very large percentage (dare I say, the majority) of them do. If you use the search feature here on YT, search "puppy mills" and "pet store" and you will see quite a bit of information and some great links for more information. | |

I would also like to know that point. I was born in NY, my parents were on the NYPD. When my Mothers Police Car was hit, her back and neck were broken so we moved here in 1970 where it's warm and she could retire. I will always love NY. And being born there I am a New Yorker. So I have a bad Rep.? I don't think so!

| Yorkies under $1000 Desirae just keep looking out there. Post some inquiries and keep looking through the resources that you have around you including YT, newspapers, puppyfind, etc. While my husband and I could afford a puppy that was over $1000 we had to set a budget. We decided that despite my love for yorkies that we wouldn't spend more than $500 on a dog that was intended to be only a family pet (not for show or breeding). I was blessed enough to find a one time breeder in my area that was selling her pups for $500. We'll give it all of the love and all of the care he needs, but without putting down more than we were willing to from the beginning. At first I honestly thought I was going to have to look into other breeds, but like I said be patient and keep looking. You'll find a little one when the time is right. And when you do there is alot of great advice on YT and we all want to see pictures! I would recommend doing a search on YT and online for what to look for in a breeder and what questions to ask. This could really help in your search for a healthy well bred puppy regardless of the cost. Best of Luck! Leah |
