teacup this, teacup that... it's no wonder people keep using the term "teacup" left and right as if it's an official description of a small dog. i was just at petsmart yesterday, they had a shelter area where you can see dogs and cats available for adoption. well they had a toy poodle puppy yesterday that everyone was going goo-goo-ga-ga over. very cute little thing. well, the cashier called it a teacup, the shelter personnel called it a teacup, the restocker employee called it a teacup, the receptionist at banfield called it a teacup, the nutro pet food rep present called it a teacup, other shoppers called it a teacup.... i think my eyes rolled so far back to the top of my head i was looking at the back of my head. someone was actually explaining to me, when i commented that it was a "toy poodle", that it was "smaller than a 'toy poodle' because it was a 'teacup poodle' ". i had to bite my tongue. bleh. meanwhile, i'm walking my "big boy" around the store...afterall, he's a whole 4.5 lbs!

I just noticed.. why are there links on this site that advertise "teacup yorkies" and this morning I saw "teacup chihuahuas" ?? If "teacup" is a frowned upon term, why is there a link with that term in it?? Just a question.

yorkielady, the ads that come up on this site are ads by google, which means ads relevant and related to other text on the page are in rotation and will be displayed. the ads in rotation are ads purchased by anyone out there from google. since the discussions here are about small breed dogs, a number of google ads will show up, even advertisers who uses the marketing term "teacup". yt would not have control over which ads are displayed. it's a "google ads thing" not a "yt thing". as for misusage of terms and words, i find that i am sometimes annoyed with misusage of certain terms... like i don't always use "Kleenex", i use "tissue paper". i don't make a "Xerox" of something, unless i'm using a Xerox machine, i usually make a "photocopy" of something. oh, and contrary to popular belief, i cannot learn through "osmosis" by placing my textbook under my pillow...well, not unless i sleep underwater that is... but that's all just me being a geek.

oh, i also love the "isn't [bunjee] kinda big for his age?" (in reference to bunjee being 4.5 lbs at 16 weeks). bunjee will most likely grow up to be a non-standard 7+ lbs and with floppy ears to boot, but that sure doesn't stop him from prancing around the store like he's a show dog. | |

I think teacup sounds cute compared to what they call them here lol. Here in spain when a dog of a certain breed turns out to be smaller than usual, they call it "enano" which means dwarf..to me this sounds like theres something wrong with the poor thing. I get stopped alot when I walk Lady by people who want to know where they can get a "dwarf yorkie" We get ALOT of ads where people (even breeders) use this term and Iv never liked it.

Personally, I like the word 'tolerance' I think we all need to use it a little more.
