| My dog was put to sleep, i cant stop crying My Mickey, which I had for 7 months, was diagnosed with acute kidney failure on Thursday after a visit with the vet. The vet recommended he stay at the vet for three days and that's what we did. Yesterday we were suppose to bring him home, my family and I were super excited because Mickey wasn't a pet to us, but a family member. When we arrived the vet said he wasn't doing good and there was nothing else they could do but .."send him to heaven".. Right away I refused, I LOVED my dog. But the vet said he would literally suffer to death. And we didn't want him to suffer, so we did what was right for him. I started yelling and crying in the vets office and I still can't stop crying. I miss him so much, I got SO attached to him in the few months I had him. The house feels empty, we all loved him so much. My dad said he wants to get is another one because he knew how much Mickey meant to us. Of course NO DOG will EVER replace Mickey. But I feel empty and I love dogs SO much. Should I get another one? I'm not replacing my Mickey, but to have another one to love. I'm so confused right now, I can't stop crying. |

| First of, so so sorry for your loss and pain. When my GSD Malachi had to be put to sleep, I greieved terribly, couldn't face getting another dog for 5 years and still grieved. No dog could replace our bond. Now I wish I'd let another dog into my life much sooner. The new dog doesn't stop the grieving or replace your loss, but it does give you hope and a new friend to love and help with the grief. I'm sure our dogs want us to love and bond. They are pack animals, so are we.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'm SO very sorry for your loss, how tragic - and so young too! I would recommend you contact the breeder to let her know of this tragedy bc she needs to know if this runs in her breeding lines. Also, she should give you your money back bc the pup died so young. As far as getting another pupster, follow your heart .

| I am so sorry for your loss and am just heartbroken. You are right, there is no replacement for the love that you had for Mickey. I had to do the same thing for my dear Kloee last Mother's Day, and I know just how heartbreaking it is to do. I started looking for another little one to love a month later because I was so sad and empty without one. Yes, I felt guilty, but my dear Kloee was not being replaced. In JAX, I see a lot of Kloee's ways living through him, even the size!(11 months and weighing 12 lbs Kloee was and will always be my "Baby Girl" and JAX is now my "Baby Boy". So, yes, I would get another little one to love, to help heal your heart. It has helped me. Again, I am so sorry for the loss of your "Baby" and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. RIP "MICKEY" Pattee, mama to JAX and "KLOEE" RIP |

| I'm so sorry for your loss! Hope the breeder can give you compensation for this great loss! You have such love for this dog that you should get another after you've had time to grieve. Like the saying goes, it's better to have loved then never love. He's your angel now and he'd want you to be happy. |

| I feel your pain and so sorry for the loss of lil Micky. I had to put my beautiful Matese down in Oct. she was 16 y/o. It doesn't matter how long you have them, the pain is still severe. I swore no more dogs, she was the 4th one I had taken from me, I can't take the pain in my heart anymore. I cried for 6 weeks, could not drive my car because my mind would go back to the day I received the call from my vet telling me to "come say your good byes, you have to put her down" to me holding her while the tech gave her the injection that ended her life, I was a hazard on the road. She was my best friend, my buddy my companion. I felt so lonely, the house felt so empty, I could hear her nails getting caught in the carpeting when they didn't get filed after they were cut. I could hear her little snores, her feet walking on the kitchen floor. Six weeks after putting her down I get a call from my vet, the rescue team she works with just picked up a 2 1/2 y/o male yorkie as a surrender. I gave her all the reasons why I did not want another dog. She told me to "just come see the dog" there was something about him that reminded her of my Matese. I knew I would not take another dog, I didn't want to hurt my vet's feelings, after all, she thought of me when she saw this dog. I felt it was safe to "just to see the dog" knowing I would not take a male dog because of their marking, I had also told this to the vet, she said he was neutered, some mark, some do not. But felt to appease my vet I would go. I went, I saw, he came home with me. He put love back in my heart, and my house became a home again. No, he can never replace my Matese, no dog can ever "replace" one that you have lost, but they do help you heal. My new boy has helped me cope with the loss of my beloved Matese. I say, yes, please get another baby, you will be amazed at how much they can help ease your pain. I do not feel guilty getting this lil boy 6 weeks after loosing her. I know she would want me to be happy and to have love in my life. She will never be forgotten and I will always love her. These lil furbabies have so much to offer, and they do help you heal. Good luck in what ever you and your family decide.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I am so very sorry for your loss. Its only been just over five months since we had our gal put to sleep to stop her suffering. It was one of the hardest things we have ever experienced and I miss my baby girl Brandi so very much. I know it is so very new to you but believe me it does get easier with time. Your pup was so young and I agree the breeder should know of his passing due to this type of problem.

| I am so very sorry it is not easy to lose a beloved family member. I would give yourself a week or so to grieve before bringing in a new dog. Do they know what cause this he was pretty young?

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I am so very sorry for your loss. In terms of another dog, this decision is as individual as the 7 billion folks here on Earth. We can never replace a dog, but we can open up our minds and our hearts to a new lovely being. The time is right when you feel it is right.

| I don't think there is anything wrong with getting another dog but I do believe you need to give yourself some time to grieve. Allow yourself the time to work through those painful feelings and in time you won't need to ask us, you know in your heart the time is right. I'm very sorry for your loss... |

| I'm so sorry for your loss. I agree with the other posters that say you must take time to grieve but your heart will tell you when the time is right to bring a new baby into your life. |

I know people who have replaced a pet too soon and they expected the new pet to be exactly like the old one, and that could never be because they are all unique. I learned my lesson with my dad. My sister and I ended up getting my dad a dog for x-mas shortly after his other dog passed...and while my dad does love the dog and takes care of him well, we probably should have let him pick out his own dog in his own time. When you are ready, if you want another dog, I say go for it. I am so very sorry for your loss BTW... I've only had my Ricky for a year and it seems like he's been a part of the household forever. It sucks so bad that our pets can't live as long as us....sometimes I wonder if the heartache of loosing them makes them worth having in the first place...but anything you truly love and loose hurts and dogs definitely bless us with lots of love and joy in the short time they inhabit this earth. | |
