| Yes. Playing with fire if you don't... It is illegal not to in most areas. If any kind of city/county/state rabies license is available that means it is not just a suggestion. Our county requires it and both dogs are kicensed. the city here requires it too, but I haven't gotten around to that yet. Not nearly as converned for that one. Some vets send the info to the county and others don't (probably varies by area ). It is generally up to the owner, though. The piece of paper the vet prints out for you after vaccination with tgeir siggy is supposed to be sent to the powers that by with a check. I used to skip it too. But there are some extreme fines in certain counties and cities. Additionally, if pup is involved in any incident where authorities question rabies vaccination you don't want to be caught without it or your pups could suffer for it.

| My town requires it, but we live just on the outside of city limits. I licensed my dogs the first year. I don't license them anymore.

| Both of mine are licensed yearly (12.00 for neutered or spayed so you catch a break there) and we just got notice. You have to provide proof of current rabies vaccine to get your tags. Before bubba and sissy we had a bichon that got out when the meter reader left the gate open (needless to stay the gate has been padlocked ever since). Anyhow we searched for him for hours and couldn't find him. We had called the police and reported him missing. When we finally got home there was a message on our answering machine from the police and the man in the liquor store two blocks down saying they had found him and were keeping him in the store over night because they had to close. He gave him crackers and water. We picked him up the next morning. I don't know if it was the id tag or the license but we got him home. My husband joked that he had a drinking problem and just went to the liquor store to store up.

| Thanks guys I think I will go ahead and do it, its only $5.00. None of our vets around here say anything about it or send anything in about it. She already wears two tags does she have to wear the tag?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Everywhere I've ever lived they required it and we always do it, I know many people ignore it, but I encourage people to buy their licenses, because it does pay for animal control in your town and they do provide some very necessary services and also help reunite pets and owners.

| The rabies tag from the get is generally not required. The tag from the county is generally mandatory. Dogs have to wear the county tag here.

YT 1000 Club Member | Though I admit I have overlooked the required registration...occasionally, I do believe one should. Beyond the requirement, those funds would contribute to the Animal Control function, which need all the support they can get. I have Collars on my guys full time. They are only used to hold the Rab Tag, EID info, my contact information and Bells. The Bells are a cheep way of keeping from squashing a toe. (theirs not mine)

| It's required in our county with a copy of proof of rabies vaccine. It's not a huge fee if dogs are spayed/neutered, it does cost more for intact dogs.

| It is required here, but not enforced, best I can tell. Huey is licensed with the county, just because. It's just another form of identification, as far as I'm concerned, and the more, the better. I didn't realize that the county license supported the local animal control, but that is another great reason to do it. Our County Animal control has helped us in the past with issues with the next door neighbor...

| It's a great idea to license your dog, here you get a tag with it and you have to renew the license every year with a rabies shot. It's also great to microchip your dog. I just went into the shelter yesterday and there were many stray dogs and you can tell that they were taken care of but there is no way to return them to their owner otherwise. I have to wait 3 days and if he is not claimed I will have my Yorkie. |

I've never gotten anything about county licensing with Jackson's rabies shot/tag. He's had 3 in his lifetime now (6 months, 1 year and 3).

| My dogs are licensed every year by the county. They do accept 3 year rabies you just have to send in the vet receipt and your $10. We used to get a different shape/color tag every year ,but now they just renew it on their computer system and you keep the old tag. I keep the tag on their harnesses for when they are out (they wear little collars with ID around the house). Animal control is very responsive and I am happy to support them! |
