| Bad Thanksgiving and euthanasia story. May be disturbing to some. Wednesday we had to put my girlfriend's Westie down. She had him for 13 years and he was the coolest dog in the world, he even ran for mayor of our town. Hit me much harder than I thought it would, and she is devastated. No Thanksgiving for us. Anyway, I was wondering if this is a common story. Our vet has a good reputation for doing this and came over the house. Due to a misunderstanding we thought the whole thing was taking place in the home, but he only gave Miles a strong sedative. We were supposed to bring Miles to the office later and let him finish. Obviously we kept waiting and waiting and waiting and finally called the office and were told to bring him in. This just made a difficult situation even more difficult. Is this a common procedure for a home euthanasia? Miles was having so many problems he's in a better place now. Ruger, my Yorkie, is doing fine but realizes something is wrong, especially when I take him to my girlfriends. I may have to leave him at home now as I don't think my girlfriend appreciates a four-year-old Yorkie running around the house after what happened. I didn't know whether it would help or hurt. Aside from my problems I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving. Well get over this and I'm hoping Ruger will have a new playmate soon. |

| I'm so sorry for your loss. RIP Miles. I'm sorry I'm not familiar with home euthanasia. I always thought it was done completely at home though.

| I don't have personal experience myself, but I do have a friend who went through it. They told me that everything was started and finished at the home. They didn't want to bury their dog onsite, so their vet took the dog for cremation, I believe. Pretty sure their vet didn't actually have anything to do with the cremation tho. Can't say why your vet did something different- maybe laws regarding this vary by state. I would talk to him about your experience tho, in case there's anything he can do differently in the future. I'm really sorry you and your girlfriend had to go through this during the holidays. Miles has crossed on over to the Rainbow Bridge and can rest peacefully now. As painful as this is for you, you both did the right thing, just know that much.

| I am sorry you had to go through this. I don't know anything about home euthanasia, but I would assume it would all happen at home.

| Very sorry for the loss of Miles, he sounded like a really cool dog. I've never even heard of in home euthanasia, so have nothing to add there. I lost my Megan, a 15 year old Yorkie, the day after Memorial day, I had her put to sleep, as I had promised never to let her suffer. As for Miles, he's no longer hurting or sick, and you did the right thing, and believe me, I know it hurts. As for taking your taking Ruger over to your gf's house, talk to her, it may just take her some time. I hope you both try to remember the good things, and try not to dwell on any bad, it really helped me. Again so sorry for your loss, I hope the rest of the holidays get better for the both of you. Cheers Quad & Gina

| I'm sorry for your loss. I have done euth at home before & the whole thing was done at home. The whole purpose of home euth is so the pet can be in their own environment, comfortable in their own bed & free from fear & stress at the vets office. It makes no sense to me that he would waste time coming to your home only half prepared, adding stress to both you & your dog. I'm sorry you had to go through that & I would speak my mind to the vet because as you said, it made a very hard situation even harder. |

| I have done home euthanasia twice now with our beloved pets, and it is done in home. first a check in visit to make sure it's the right time. then the final visit. In home. Our vet then took our kitties to the animal funeral home where we picked them up later. I suspect something went wrong.... that is my only guess. Sounds like very unclear communication and honestly I don't see the point in that process. He could have given you a pill if he had planned it that way all along. Not wanting to upset you... but that is my experience - it was peaceful, first shot was to calm, second was ... well you know. At home with their family.

| Sorry for the loss of Miles. It's never an easy thing to deal with. My sister had her dog home euthanized and it was done completely in the home. |

| I am very sorry for your loss. I have lost my beloved Yorkie and last Friday my cat so I understand how you are feeling. It gets easier I promise. I think you should ask your Girlfriend how she is feeling about you bringing your a yorkie over. Personally if I had not been dog sitting my Moms dog the week Indie died I can't say how I would have made it through. It may help her to snuggle with him. As for the euthanasia procedure it seems very strange for the Vet to have done this. I have assisted in many home procedures as a Vet Assistant and can assure you that your experience is not the norm. Again please tell your girlfriend that she did the right thing and that we are very sorry for her loss. |

| I am so sorry for you and your girlfriend! My heart goes out to you! We did a home euthanasia and the whole process was in home. The vet also made all the arrangements for cremation and delivered the ashes back to us in a beautiful wooden urn.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I am so very sad reading this and so sorry for you and your girlfriends loss as well as the somewhat confusing way the process went. I have a very young dog and am already dreading the day I will lose him. I live in UK and don't think home euthanasia is offered here, but if it was I would expect it to be fully completed in my home. I hope your girlfriend can very soon be able to enjoy your Yorkie's love, I am sure he will feel her pain when he is around her and try his very best to comfort her.
