At the pet store do you pick/clean up your pets potty

If I were to get that comment from you I might think you were implying I was a bad pet parent, but I didn't see any comments from members where they implied that you are. I saw comments where people answered your question, gave you reasons why they did so, and ppl added on from that and the conversation got "deeper" as adult conversations tend to do.

This may have been brought up already -- I admit to not reading all 5 pages -- but a pet peave of mine is people who don't clean up after their dogs OUTSIDE the pet store.

I'm talking immediately outside the pet store. In the parking lot. How could people think it's OK to leave poop uncleaned up there?

Granted, they may not have thought to carry a plastic bag with them, but in that case you put your dogs in your car, go through your wallet (or purse) and get some scrap paper big enough to clean it up. Then promise to NEVER go anywhere with your dog without carrying a plastic bag.

Pet stores that allow dogs inside are AWESOME! It's a great way to exercise in winter, train and socialize all year long. But if I were a pet store owner, I would not allow dogs inside if owners didn't clean up outside.

Any resemblance of the people in this story to YT members real or imagined was unintended.

I always put Trinket in her stroller when we go to a pet store. Paranoid I guess. Don`t want her catching anything. Plus her stroller is so cute. I think it gets more attention than the dog.

Oh I know!!! I always try to have a bag tied to the end of Kaji's leash in addition to having one of those cute roll holder things in the car to always be prepared since these little ones are unpredictable. Kaji had never pooped in a store in all 4 years he's been living with us. That is until the day he did. haha! Always be prepared, right?

Taylor I guess I was one of the ones who got off topic but I feel it is also important to educate about the germs in pet stores just as you and all of us do about puppy mills and the difference in them and good breeders. Many times I see you go off topic to my dear on threads with statements about those. It is the same here and on any thread. We discuss our feelings on any given subject. I don't feel anyone myself included was directing anything at you personally.

My boy occasionally go to the pet stores with me. I go all of the time. I am one of those that likes to look and touch stuff before I buy it. I occasionally order online too, but not nearly as much.

I would never think about bringing a small puppy into a pet store and I do understand people's concern....especially someone who breeds. I know breeders who skip shows if they have a litter around, just because they don't want to take the chance of bringing home something to the puppies.

I don't think the pet store is any worse than a dog park or a vets or even a groomers. Anywhere other dogs poop or pee and there's a chance they aren't vaccinated or sick is virtually going to have the same risks. Heck, my neighborhood, I am sure is risky. When we take walks, the boys sniff out every pile of poo that owners don't clean up...and I am sure we walk past lots of dogs that aren't vaccinated. Heck...I am betting the dogs next door aren't vaccinated with the way the owners care for them.


To the owners that won't take their dogs into the pet stores...would it make a difference if the stores made sure the dogs that entered were vaccinated?? For the life of me, I don't understand why they don't do that. How hard would it be to check a set of vaccination papers...Hell, rabies alone?? If someone gets bit by a dog in a pet store that doesn't have a rabies vacc...I'd hate to see the outcome of that one.

Oh my yes I hate that. There is always poo right outside the door and most of the time it is smushed because some one has stepped in it. My petsmart even has a clean up station outside with bags and a trash can but people don't use it it's gross.

There is no more germs in a pet store then if you take your dog for a walk. It's not fair for a dog to be just locked up in the house 100% of the time unless they like that but mine is extremely sociable and loves going places.
