Thank you so much Lisaly. I am most worried about the anesthesia. She is only 3 pounds so I will be very nervous! I know she is a tough one though so I think she will come out just fine, and the DR explained that she will be closely monitored, which makes me feel better.

I know people have talked about using "care credit" I believe is what it is called.

If someone doesn't have the money upfront to pay the bill, is there any way to get the care credit and then pay that off when they get the money back from the insurance?!?

I have VPI and have been very happy with them they pay really good but you do have to pay up front

Yes you do have to pay first, but the refund usually comes well before the credit card bill. You can tailor your monthly fee to what deductible you want. I pay more as I chose 0% . It is so comforting not to have to worry about tests etc. it also pays 50% of prescription food costs. I have never had any issue with any claim. There are online sites that compare coverage.

I'm so glad that you have pet insurance too! It's one of those things that seems expensive, until you need it!

Care Credit is very easy and fast to apply for over the phone. They will tell you within minutes if you are approved. The amount of credit depends on your income. They accept cosigners. Applying is a "hard pull" and does impact your credit rating.

Then you have talk to your vet's office about what they will accept and the terms. Most vets will allow you to charge anything with the card, but only purchases $200 or more qualify for interest free financing. The length of time that you have to pay it in full before interest is charged is also dependent on your office. Our vet allows 6 months. Some offices allow 1 to 2 years.

Second, and my favorite part, is you get about 6 months to pay it back interest free as long as you are making payments (don't quote me on that, I don't have the pamphlet in front of me)

The only negative is that if you are unable to pay it off in the allotted time, I think the full interest for the entire period is applied -- and it is steep, 29%. Something to keep in mind when considering Care Credit vs a regular credit card.
