| ![]() We have it for our girl, for peace of mind. Our vet doesn't require payment up front, they make the claim and we pay the excess. We have pet insurance with Pet Plan, and another monthly one from our vet called Healthy Pet club that costs £10 and covers dental, flea and worming, 20% off medications and services...free vaccinations and yearly boosters, free microchipping, free dental scaling and nail clipping...It's a pretty sweet deal. I was told that when my girl goes in to get fixed, if I wasn't on their pet club service I'd have to pay over £200 but because I am the cost will be closer to £100 that includes her medication and pain killers too. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() And now even Breeders can get Pet Insurance for breeding dogs. Prior to Trupanion offering a true breeders coverage, many of us could not get even accident insurance ![]() ![]() I can even get insurance coverage for accidents once ownership changes, which will need to happen 5days at least before she flies to me, as there is a 5day waiting period for that coverage to click in. ![]() ![]()

| ![]() How is Lola doing with the spay? Also, after the cast comes off does your vet think she will have her same athleticism and jumping ability? Are you putting her in a onesie to keep her away from the stitches? My vet thought it was a great idea (not mine of course, it was yorkietalk's!) and said he wished everyone did it after a spay/neuter.

| ![]() D'oh, of course a onesie doesn't make sense with a broken leg! Glad to hear Lola is doing well. How about Teddy? Has he grown his beard back?

| ![]() Here's a tip for those of you who have already decided to get insurance. This works best for puppies of course but I suppose it works for young pets too with no prior medical issues. I recently signed up with Trupanion and requested that they initiate a Pawprint. This is something they do when you submit your first claim to identify if there is anything with the pet that they decide they won't cover. For those of you who know insurance terms, this is called pre-existing condition. Because I'm covering my pet who is under 1 yr, I sent them all her vet records and requested them to initiate a Pawprint NOW to give me in writing that my pet has no pre-existing conditions so she wouldn't be refused coverage for anything she should be covered for years later. I don't know how the other insurance companies work, but had I chosen another company I would have done the same. Request a confirmation that your pet has no prior pre-existing conditions. Which is easy to do now if your pet is still a puppy. This way I don't pay years and years of insurance only to be refused for something. Those of you who are doing the "savings account" way, pray that nothing happens before your savings account had a chance to grow! I did a (very) simple calculation, cuz I'm a nerd, that if I put the cost of my monthly premium in the account, increase my monthly premium by 8% every year to see how much money I'd have at the end of 15 years, it only takes 2 major issues any time within those 15 years to completely deplete my account. Lets say your argument is you add in an interest rate so you'll accumulate more money, which is true. But say something happens in year 7 which depletes your account and now your account will now start from zero at a time when your pet needs coverage most. That's why I didn't do the savings account method because I'd be freaking out myself. Just saying! |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() I don't understand the term Pawprint? Is this term unique to Trupanion? Although I do get the idea to have in writing from the insurer that when you have given in the pup health records there are no pre-existing conditions.

| ![]() Yup, Pawprint is unique to Trupanion, that's what they call it. I'm still waiting for mine after WEEKS of requesting it so I can't even tell you what it looks like. |
