The other thing is that some people seem to think that some of us are over protective of our little babies but just the fact that the OP's little girl broke her leg by jumping off a bed shows that they can be fragile. We can't always be there to protect them from every possible danger, try as we may.

It's true that they really are so fragile. I have to say that when I was looking for a second yorkie I wanted one that was a little smaller than my original (Teddy 7 pounds) so that when I have to carry them both (which is often) it would be less weight, so I was aiming for 5 pounds….well sweet Lola is 3 pounds and will maybe max out at 3.5, and I have to say, next time I get a yorkie (which will hopefully not be for a long long time as I want these two to live forever……I will shoot for 7-9 pounds, they are a little sturdier. Not much, but a little

Oh how I wish I even knew about pet insurance 17 years ago. It would have saved me thousands for Presley. His first pancreatic attack was at age 7. The vet told me about insurance afterwords, but when I applied he was turned down. 10 years later and we have spent $20k on his medical care. Not that it wasn't worth every penny. I still have him.

My next dog will be insured. No doubt about it.

Oh, I agree with you. We thought Gracie was going to be about 8lbs when we bought her. Well, it took her well over a year to reach 5lbs. Those months when she was a tiny tot made me a nervous wreck. We hadn't had her too long when she took a tumble off the bed while wrestling with a kitten her own size. It was an emergency trip to the vet. She had quite a limp for a little over a week but thank God nothing was broken. She was always doing dare devil stunts that just about took my breath away. I really think a more realistic weight gives the the sturdiness they need to be a bit more resilient.

Thank you so much. She is such a spirited little girl, and it's difficult to keep her calm as she wants to jump around and be a crazy puppy. I hope that time passes quickly and she heals just as she should:-/

Oh wow! I just now read your thread. I am so sorry to hear that sweet little Lola has been through all of this. It's great to see that she is on the mend.

Sorry to hear about little Lola. My Gina jumped off the bed after we replaced the carpet with hardwood. Cruciate ligament (sp) severed. No insurance. I got Zoey insurance the first week I had her. Have had to use it every year since and the pay back more than covers the cost of the entire year's premium.

I am very happy that surgery wet well and Lola is recovering nicely with a cute pink cast.

Whenever someone here has to keep a Yorkie on crate rest, I wonder how they manage it! I had to do it once for only 1 week and it was the longest week.

So true! My boys are both larger and their legs still scare me. I try not to think about it too much. Cover them up with hair.

Hi everyone I just wanted to update you on Lola! She had the surgery (almost two weeks ago) and she is doing very well. It is very, very hard to keep a 7 month old yorkie calm. She still gets around really well, even with a cast. She just had her 1st checkup since surgery and the vet said that she is healing perfectly, and will even be able to get her cast off early! I believe it's going to be on for 16 more days! Not bad at all

When she came home from her surgery Teddy was so incredibly excited to see her. Usually he is pretty indifferent to her, but this time his little stub tail was wagging, and he was just full of excitement. Sneezing, jumping up and kissing her. It was the sweetest thing. I wish I had a video of it, I never expected it.

My friend had to pick her up for me as I was booked solid at the salon and they didn't know in advance when she could be picked up. I was so excited to see her little face I started crying!
