New to site Hi! My name is Carrie and my little Bella girl is 6 months old today. She has given me so much joy and continues to make me laugh. I didn't know I could love her as much as I do. I am getting ready to have her spayed this coming Friday. Aside from the cost of this lovely procedure that is going to put me in debt for a bit, I am a bit concerned about caring for her as she heals. I'm really scared she will mess too much with the stitches while I'm at work and at night. I am looking forward to finding all kinds of info on this site, but just have to find the time to get on and check it out. There is so much here! Thanks for reading this! carrie

Welcome! Your Bella will do fine! They usually give them a hard plastic cone at the vet you may want to go to the local pet store and get a soft cone that is more comfortable. I have seen others on here also suggest a newborn onesie with a hole cut out for the tail. Can't wait to see pictures of your cutie!

Adored Yorkie Died :( I am desperate to get some help, my 8 year old healthy Yorkie Coco died on Thursday the 24th October and I am devastated. She was happy and healthy in morning and then when last seen a 5pm was still healthy and happy. When we returned at 10pm she had been vomitting & diaherra everywhere and looked pitiful. Within minutes she was staggering and fell to her side. While lying in her crate (me watching over her) she lifted her back leg, which was something I had never seen her do before. I wrapped her up in a towel and we were enroute to 24 hour vet and within minutes of the car ride she died in my arms. Can anyone come up with why this would have happened to a healthy dog. She was up to date with vet checks, feed top food and did not spend a lot of time outside. I am not only devastated by her passing but desperate for an answer. I couldn't bring myself to having an autopsy on her.

New too! I actually do not have my Yorkie yet...this Tuesday I am going to pick one of 4 out of a litter 1 girl and 3 boys. I never owned a small breed dog, always large mutts! But I have always loved this breed and I'm older now...in an apartment and figured this would be a good breed for me. I have 2 adult Persian cats, who are very mellow and sweet...they were actually brought up with my old dog, and got along quite well the 3 of them. We had to put the ol' guy down a few years back. So any input for my situation would be welcomed....boy versus girl Yorkie...potty training....best food...etc.

| Hello! Hello Carrie & Bella! From your profile pic, Bella looks adorable, hopefully you'll post some pictures. As for getting your baby fixed, my Sasha girl was recently fixed and she did well with the cone. She kept it on for a week and was a little sore during the process but she managed. She came home from the vet and was a little loopy from the anesthesia. She relaxed in her bed and got up only to drink, eat and cuddle. I didn't let her use her puppy stairs or go down the stairs in my house just because I did not want her to exert herself. [Fyi, since she will have the cone on, I say get a soft leash that you can drape over her cone, there was no way of getting the harness over her cone.] Anyways, a couple days later and Sasha was fine. At the end, I let her relax on the bed with me and took off the cone, (monitored of course) and she tried to bother her stitches but I wouldn't let her. Other than that, don't be worried. If you trust your vet she'll be in good hand. Good luck!

Thank you so much to GizmosDogShop. The onsie is a great idea! But....my Bella has left those stitches alone and is doing very well! Cocos Mum16, I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine what you are going thru. I wish I had some answers for you, but I am a new Yorkie owner, so I'm still learning. What did your vet say? BillieHolliday, when I was looking for my yorkie, I thought I wanted a boy, because that is what I've always had when I had a dog....but then I decided to go and look at the pups and decide which one was best for me. It ended up being my sweet Bella. She was active, friendly and not skittish. I think you need to just look at the pups and see which is best for you. Thinking now, I remember you said you were going on Tuesday, so my advice is too late....so, what did you decide? Kasey11, thank you so much for your reply. Bella did great. My vet keeps the pups over night, so I picked her up on Saturday morning, and she busted a gut to get into her carrier when they brought her out to me. Guess she missed home! Bella didn't need a cone, amazingly she hasn't bothered her stitches at all. They did the hidden stitches under her skin that resolve, so maybe that has something to do with it? The directions did say to not let her run or jump. Which was great on Saturday....but then on Sunday I couldn't keep the girl down! She was running around the house and then jumping onto the couch! I've continued to watch her and the incision, and all looks good. I guess she is a real trooper and a typical 'woman' to be....because you know us women endure pain much better than the males!! I'm still learning and trying to figure out how to get around this site, so I'm hoping to be able to post more pix soon! I just hope I've done this reply right!! carrie
