| Flexi leashes I saw this on fb and thought I would share it Ask Me How I Feel About "Flexi" Leashes - Higher Expectations HEX Dog Training & Behavior Modification I am not a fan of these kind of leashes because of these reasons. Callie does have one but I only use it if we are in like a field or like when we got the new house and there was no fence and I was letting her explore the 3 acres. Probably have only used it 3 times in 5 years.

| I have never been a fan of them either. You cannot teach a dog to walk properly on a leash if you are letting them go way ahead of you and there is no control if a dangerous situation presents it's self. If a loose dog runs out to attack a small dog on a long leash you have 0 time to get to your dog to defend it. That is quite a wound on that back of that person's leg. Still another reason not to use the things. |

| I think Flexi leashes are fine for little dogs who just toodle along, never pull, and only in an area with plenty of room, few threats. I would only use the all-tape variety and not the wire ones. I am too uncoordinated to use one, haha, and my boys like to dart at certain things, so we prefer traditional leashes.

| I got one. Until I can teach Come & Stay.! I'm sure it will come in handy. Although I truly agree. You are not teaching any boundaries when none are initially set up.

I use both depending on the location, population.. For our daily walks in my neighborhood, I prefer flexi. One of the biggest reason being that there were numerous times where the traditional leash kept getting around their necks from their own leash or from the other. The slight tauntness seem to do the trick for me to avoid that. Mostly b/c they walk in different paces and different preferences to where to sniff.. If we're going somewhere crowded, I use the traditional. Well, on Magnus I would since Zoey would be riding along in the backpack. She doesn't like crowded places.. I switched off to flexi after they have been trained to walk on the traditional leash completely. Either way, I always have the traiditional leash in the "diaper bag" whenever I'm out of the house with the pups so I'd have the option to switch off any time I feel necessary. Even on the daily walks. LOL | |

I only use a flexi AFTER they're trained on a regular leash. Otherwise, it's a disaster waiting to happen...because I'm in the uncoordinated club. I have them for the beach. I'm afraid to let them off-leash on the beach & somehow it just doesn't seem fair to keep them on a 6-footer with all that open sand.

| I use different leashes for different things but Jax is very well trained and he does well on a flexi. It's not hard to reel him in when we have to. But I still don't use them in most public places (i.e. walking in crowded parks, or the city, or pet stores etc). But a few places I'd use a flexi would be a beach (when his 50 ft long lead is not really acceptable) or a large area of grass or a mostly empty park. It really does come in handy though sometimes when a 50ft lead is not really acceptable but a 6ft lead is just not enough. I have a few different leashes for different occasions lol. His 5ft leather leash is used for city walks, or any more crowded place, I like to keep him close. His 6ft biothane is used for anytime he may get somewhat dirty or wet, or for just regular walking sometimes. His flexi, like I said above. His long line used for certain beaches or fields. So yeah.

| I donīt use those.I have 2 regular 4ft leashes and when we get down to the beach I let mine go without clipping the lead off (so it trails along behind them). If I see another dog, I shout "Come" to Milo and Bella, and they run back to me and I grab their leash. It takes all of two seconds, but I must admit that itīs because theyīre very obedient when out on walks so we donīt have a problem with this method. If they were runners or they didnt come when called, Iīd deffinately use a flexi leash so they they could experience some controlled "freedom" on walks Last edited by Ginas_babys; 09-26-2013 at 06:50 AM. |

| I have never used a flexi lead. I have probably 5-6 leashes of various lengths. I prefer keeping Tink within 6ft of me just in case. We have some larger dogs in our neighborhood that don't like small dogs so I don't take any chances. |

| I love mine. I actually have like 3 of them. Never had any issues with them. The one I've had I've had it since Peanut was a young pup. Still works great.

| Tink's behavior actually improved when I used the flexi on her. Learning how to use the flexi is key though.

| I have 2 of them, 1 each in the console of each vehicle. I use the regular lead on Gina most of the time, when she is outside, she is always on the lead. I had a finger get broken with the flexi lead, but that was with a Brittany, not a Yorkie. The flexi is used mainly at rest stops on the road, where she can have a little more room to roam and sniff, mind I have the shortlest length flexi. I also have the the poo bag holder attached to it. I prefer the regular lead over all, and think it's a much better tool for training loose lead walking. Cheers Quad

| i use one for Lexie, but she heels off leash anyway, so not like she even needs a leash for restraining purposes. I like how it keeps the slack adjusted. But I agree, it isn't for dogs who pull, or for training to walk properly.
