Senior Yorkie Talker | Kirkland Costco food Currently we feed Taste of the Wild to our three dogs. They love it and do great on it. I'd like to switch them to Kirkland if its good bc the cost is excellent. I don't want to give them anything bad for them of course so I thought I'd ask what everyone's opinions on Kirkland food is. Thank you for your help! |

| I am not familiar with Kirkland directly but I am familiar with TOW. A good general guideline to go by is no corn wheat or soy as they are very indigestible. All kibble must have a carbohydrate to make it a kibble. If that carbohydrate is going to be a grain more tolerable grains include rice, oats and barley. TAste of The wild is grain free so they use potato for their kibble carb, another option would be a legume such as peas. The other major things to consider is what the protein/s is/are. Ex: tow generally has multiple protein sources; high prairie, wild wetland fowl etc. if your dog has digestive/allergy issues and you have already eliminated grains it is ideal to go with a single protein (like a limited ingredient diet) so you can determine if the protein (chicken, lamb, fish) works for your dog. And of course, if they don't like it, it doesn't matter what the label says cause they won't eat it! Lol sounds like tow works well for your guys so do a label comparison- and dont forget to compare suggested feeding rates. If it takes three cups vs one cup it may not be worth it in the long run! If it looks sufficient note any differences you will want to be aware of (like grains) and see how it goes. Remember to mix your old food with your new and take time for the transition so as not to upset their digestive tract and remember that quality nutrition saves in vet bills!

| I use Kirkland but only their nature domain, it is rated the same as blue buffalo and is grain free, but the kibble is large so I wouldn't feed it to my little guys. I do use the nature domain wet food also grain free for all my dogs. The nature domain comes in three flavors, turkey sweet potato, beef sweet potato and salmon sweet potato. I would stay away from the regular Kirkland not as high quality |

| Personally, I think the ingredients in the regular Kirkland dog food (Kirkland Signature) are better than a lot of "premium" brands. The Nature's Domain seems pea heavy to me...peas being the 3rd ingredient. My Lab used to eat the Kirkland Signature. I switched him to another brand right before the food was recalled in the summer of 2012. I'm picky with food companies. I won't feed Kirkland again because of the recall. I loved that it saved me money, but it's not worth it to me if my dog has a 1% of getting sick. You know? But that's a personal choice. Ingredient wise, I think it's a good food. Hrossen is right, the kibble is on the large size. Too big for my Yorkies, but it worked for my Lab.

| I fed TOTW for years! My boys loved it. There was a recall last year for about 2 months it was not in the stores, so I switched to a few things and when it came back I bought it 2 more times and something changed in it. My boys started getting ear infections every other week, throwing up, bloody stools, etc. I took them off TOTW and now they are fed Fromm. They LOVE it! I never ever saw them (in 8 years) eat better than they do now! Can you get the ingredients for Kirkland food? From is $15 for a 5lb bag. I buy 2 different kinds and mix them up and 10lbs lasts 2 months at least! It comes out to $180/year for 2 dogs to eat very high end food. I kind of think it's very worth it! Are you just feeding 1 Yorkie, or are you feeding more dogs or bigger dogs?

Senior Yorkie Talker | I'm feeding 1 yorkie, 1 dachshund, and 1 boxer. My boxer eats almost 4 cups a day as she is very high energy. Hubby is military and I'm job searching at the moment. We also feed two cats, a ferret, and two toddlers (haha). So needless to say, cost is certainly on my mind at the moment. I have interviews for vet asst positions coming up so I'm hoping for one! I won't give them anything bad of course, but I was looking at Diamond foods and Kirkland. I like the ingredients in Kirkland better than Diamond Naturals. I know they had recalls last year but I believe they are all safe now. TOTW was recalled with those. If I didn't have one that eats like a horse, I wouldn't switch bc they do well on TOTW. Lol! I haven't decided to yet though. I'm just researching options. |

YT 2000 Club Member | dog I have been studying dog foods because my boys are currently on Blue Buffalo. I want to switch off that but do not know what to. Some dog foods get their vitamins from China. That scares me. Read up on this stuff before you change. We all want healthy dogs and some of the foods out there cannot be trusted. I am looking at Fromm. Sounds good to me. |

| I have a lot of respect for Kirkland for the most part they only put their name on high quality products. I have seen reviews on their dog food that rate it quite high in the past. Considering the cost savings, I think it is a good choice, especially where you go through a lot of food. My daughter feeds her big 100# Rhodesian Ridgebacks Kirkland food (I forgot the name, but it's the more expensive one) and they are thriving on it. My pups nibble on it when we visit there, and have not had any adverse effects from it, other than the size of kibble is quite large for lil Yorkie mouths. I feed my pups Wellness Small Breed, Healthy Weight, for their basic food, since they need so little.

| Kirkland looks like a good food, but it was on the list of Diamond recalls, and that really scares me. I'd be afraid to feed a Diamond food because of the safety factor. Taste of the Wild is also produced by Diamond.

Wellness stopped their business w/Diamond bc of all the recalls. I would be scared to feed any food produced by Diamond.

| Yes, diamond brand manufactures many different foods including taste of the wild and often times that is a good way for big companies to 'hide' a problem. If you don't realize diamond is tow then one might never bat an eye while the recalls happen. I really like first mate's grain free line. ( I believe) they have never had a recall, they make only their own food in a small processing plantnin bc Canada. It was originally a fish processing factory. They have been around for about thirty years and they have small breed bites at least in chicken and blueberries and their lamb (which they source from nz due to high incidences of scrapes in north America - which is basically mad cow disease for sheep) I also tried and appreciated the ingredients list and kibble size of zignature recently (pea instead of potato) but I didn't do as much company research. Has anyone tried honest kitchen here? Lilah does not appreciate the texture but it is human grade with really good Nutrient concepts. They make great treats like pure dehydrated whitefish and catfish skins and have a really cute pet cookbook I got.

| Kirkland was selling a chicken jerky made in China that got recalled and I swear when all the foods made in the diamond plant where recalled there's was one of them but I could be wrong.
