| Help! Poop Stuck @ Baby's Backside. :-( I came home and let my babies out. Not long after they came in, I heard some yelping. Thought maybe a couple of them were playing rough, but then notice my boy was off to himself and heard him crying/yelping in pain. I was worried he ate something that got caught in his mouth, then I thought exactly what happened... He was plugged up BAD and it's my fault for not keeping him properly groomed as I had meant to trim his backside in the next couple of days. He went outside and the crying continued. I was livid at myself as well as very scared for my baby boy.(6yrs.) Long story short I managed to scissor cut some hairs and discovered most likely this started yesterday because part of the outermost poop was dry! It looked like some feces escaped out the bottom of the orifice... more hershey/liquid in nature. I cleared around with scissors, carefully of course and he ran off twice to do his job and notice some leakage out the bottom, but the main part is still plugged up. Good news is that it relieved enough pressure he ran around happy and started rolling in the grass! Bad news is that there is this plug of poop and he's now sensitive to touch and won't let me work any more. There's not enough lighting and no one to hold him in place. If I had better lighting and another hand, I could do this. So, is a bath my only alternative? I hate the idea of all the bath water getting poopish, but if it will work, I'll do it. Any ideas on how to get the rest cleaned? Please, no scolding as I've already been down on myself enough over this. Matthias Last edited by Matthias; 09-16-2013 at 07:21 PM. |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Yes, a warm rinse with water and follow up shampoo and conditioner just on his bottom in your kitchen sink is pretty much your only option. It will loosen the stool enough for you to get his bottom cleaned up. Not necessary for a full bath unless you want too. Don't beat yourself up about it , it happens to all of our pups at some time or another. After you get him cleaned up check his bottom for swelling and if he is swollen or red and irritated put some A&D ointment on him rump.

| That's a tough one.. since his bottom is so sensitive, how about you put him in a bucket/pan of water to soak his bottom instead of full on bath? If he was that plugged up, his glands and other parts are probably swollen too. You might need to apply some ointment. Just to be on the safe side, I think you should take him to the vet. Make sure there weren't any damange. The thing about mistakes like this is that you'll ALWAYS remember and not do it twice. I'm glad you found the problem before it caused more harm. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | It happens so don't beat yourself up. I would try and soak his little but and get it all off if possible. I use a little vasoline on the area afterwards to make it feel better.

| If anyone cares to reply at this late hour, believe me, I'll be up for several more hours to take care of my son, and your reply now would be great. Thank you for the replies thus far. I had thought a full bath might be my best alternative to keep him "controlled" and get him clean. Even if I have to drain the bath and do a full all-out cleaning for a 2nd bath, I'll do it. W.E.I.T... ie = What Ever It Takes !!!!! I think he's "sensitive" because the rest of the hairs are what supports the remaining poop... and he's apprehensive. I see no swelling and no redness.(knock on wood) When I heard him cry for about the 3rd time, the Good Lord was hearing me for sure! I'm sure you know what I mean. Thank y'all for the time you've taken to read and help us out. Matthias |

| This same thing happened to me on Christmas Day. I had only had Lexi for a few days. It looked to me like her insides were coming out. I was so scared. I rushed her to the ER thinking my sweet new pup was dying. Well, with a bit of a smile, they cleaned her all up and clipped her bottom and all was well again. I felt a bit stupid, but how the heck was I supposed to know? Since then, when she gets a bit long back there, and things get messy or stuck, I just put her in the sink and let her soak for a few minutes with a nice back and head massage happening during the soak. It only takes a few minutes and she is so happy. The trial and tribulations of a yorkie Mom. |

| A warm bath will clean his bum up. I have had a couple times where their bum hair was too long, and I sprayed them down in the tub. It will make him feel better...

Thank you! Matthias P.S. "For the record, I do have 2 different electric clippers for them.(as I am the one who grooms and keeps their hair trimmed) I guess having a problem with procrastination caught up with me and my baby. From this experience for sure I've learned." | |

| Wow! In the midst of my reply, I got 2 more replies! Just to let you 2 know, I honestly appreciate your replies!... Whatever happens tonight, I brought in my baby boy(as I kept him outside) and have planned to do something... and most likely it's a full bath or something similar. I'm using plain soap/shampoo.. if that matters. Anyway, we're talking in the next hour. Right now it's cold in N. Minnesota and I will do something the next 1 1/2 hrs. based on y'alls reply! Thank you so much for the much appreciated and recommendations. It means a LOT to my myself and baby boy! Matthias Last edited by Matthias; 09-16-2013 at 08:25 PM. |

| UPDATE: First of all, I'm in firm belief that the OP has the right to edit their own post at any moment they deem necessary, but sometimes you don't get what you think is fair,... Anyway!... I just started to finish my baby boy and upon trying with different circumstance, I finished in less than 2 minutes! I got a big towel and placed him on the bed and secured him with me in the room.(closed door to prevent escape!) I had better lighting and got different scissors... very small ones with a point instead of nubs on the end. This allowed me to separate hairs and distinguish hair from loose skin. I slipped the scissors between the hairs and delicately made a few cuts and the rest started falling away! My baby needs a bath and he should be good to go. I am happy... and he seems to like the change as well! Moral of the story? Keep your babies groomed to prevent this from happening. Thank you so much for your help and considerations, etc. Matthias |

| I know this is a very old post but I am new to the board. We are 1st time owners of a yorkie and we see that when Max poops, sometimes the poop sticks to his behind. Will going to a groomer regularly take care of this? Is there more we should be doing at home to prevent problems from happening? Any advice is appreciated. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Glad you have it all taken care of, but if this happens again, warm water will turn the poop to water and it will wash right off. Once you get rid of the poop, you can wash him again, and then clip hairs. You just can't let things like this gross you out, they depend upon us to be strong!
