Hi good morning guys I'm new to this so bare with me lol but I'm currently going to purchase a male yorkie who's at his 4th week mark I won't be able to physically take him home until he's 8 weeks but I just had a question on what's a common weigh for a 4week old yorkie I want him to be atleast under 6 pounds the mom is 6.5 & dad is 4 & right now the baby weighs around 1 lb 8 oz. is this kinda of big for 5 week old? Also thinking gettin another baby boy who's only 10oz at 6 weeks on Tuesday . Any suggestions on who I should go with I just want them to be healthy and atleast 6 lbs or a little under

with two of the same gender there could be dominance issues and it's hard to tell what a pup will weigh when their so young by what info you've givin they should be in or around the same size

Welcome! You may hear from alot of members regarding taking your pup home later than 8 weeks . I think weighing 1.8 oz at 5 weeks is normal for a pup that is on track to be a 6# adult. He may weigh more or less you can't really guarantee weight but there is a chart on this forum that can give you an estimAte. Rasta weighed around 10 oz at 11 weeks and was the smallest of his litter with an estimated weight of 3#'s. I took him home at a little over 1 lb and I had to be extremely watchful. If you choose to get both or one please have karo syrup or nutrical on hand in case of low blood sugar I've never had to use it thankfully but you'd rather have it and not need it yknow? Do you have pics? I love seeing pups!

Yep! Alot of people say that , but if he(they) are healthy I see why not. Just saw the pics in your profile both are cuties! The perks of having two could be they always have a playmate but they may bond with each other more than you and your family plus twice the work. If you're hesitant you could always add another 6 months or a year from now. If you only take one and size is your deciding factor I'd go with the one who is 10 oz at 6 weeks since he's charting to be 3#'s or less but that is just an estimate

Rasta's barely 2#'s and he's healthy...feisty too lol. Alot of the things people hear about smaller pups being unhealthy is "hype" you can get a perfectly healthy small yorkie from healthy parents. I wouldn't necessarily buy a small pup from tiny parents (both 4lbs and under). But I would from healthy parents with good weight on them and with the proper genetic testing done. . There are unhealthy "tinies" just as there are unhealthy bigger yorkies. The tinies that are unhealthy just don't seem to have the same resistance to certain illnesses than their bigger counterparts. 6#'s is still pretty small(I admit I wanted a small dog since I'm not that big myself lol). If your torn, is there anyway you can wait until they're a little older to make your decision(if they come from the same breeder she/he may just ask for a larger deposit up front)? If they're older around 8 weeks you'll be able to see more of their personalities and put size on the back burner and let their attitudes be the deciding factor.

I say go for the one you really want...you don't want to look back a year from know with "what ifs...". Plus its your $$$ don't spend it by "settling" or having doubts.

your totally right ! The one I put down I love I'm just nervous not quite about size to much but I seem many videos n pictures of him but I haven't seen him in person yet the breeder doesn't allow people to come to her house she said she had a very bad experience last time but she seems sweet & knows her stuff very helpful I was just skeptical of the not being able to see him she gives me weekly updates about him n things ..I would only get to see him once he's ready to be taken home at her in laws house.. The littler baby I haven't seen yet Iam this week

She wouldn't let you see him? That's really weird especially if she let you put $$$ down. I understand she probably wouldn't want ppl coming in and out of her house because the puppies are so young and she wouldn't want them to catch anything but if she already let you put a deposit down I would insist on a visit. Not trying to be pushy lol I just dont want anyone to be taken advantage of . Did she tell you the exact reason why she didn't allow ppl in her home?

Maybe someone (attempted) to steal a pup from her home? There has been alot of dognappings going around so that may be why she's apprehensive. If she's nice and you've put your $$$ down do you think there's any way at all she'll let you see him? I would say something like " I understand your caution in letting a stranger into your home, but since I've already put my deposit down I'd like to see the pup in person since there's no way I will be able to make a truly informed decision until I see what type of temperament he has. If you feel uncomfortable with this can we please meet at a neutral location(vets office for example since she probably hasn't done the first shots/wormings)?" Has she given you a receipt for your deposit? I understand how she could be wary but if I were a breeder I couldn't take anyone's $$$ without offering to let them see what they were purchasing and to tell someone "No, you can't see him" after I put a deposit down or even before would make me suspicious. So you've already put your $$$ down on this particular pup...what's making you look into getting the other one? Sorry to get all up in your business lol

lol yea I can understand how she might feel some type of way with having many people enter her home & I should ask that if she says no then I would definitely back off the whole agreement . & actually no she hasn't sent me my receipt yet she told me she would once my money order came in the mail she told me when she received it on the 29& sent me a update video of the puppy the same night playing with his litter mates & then she sent an update text on the 31 of his eating habits are & how much he weighs & etc etc ..maybe she's forgot that she didn't send it & I know I seen her ad recently n she's taking off the puppy & another puppy & left the others up there ...I started looking into the other puppy because I seem a lot of people saying red flag when a breeder doesn't let you come see the puppies in their living habits & this one said I can come see the puppies and everything well several people I spoke to preferred me to come n see the puppies before making any decisions so I'm like ummm that's pretty weird she didn't

There are very good reasons for the 12 week rule of thumb. I have had one at 9 weeks one at 12. Believe me the 12 week one is so much more laid back and well mannered it is amazing. Our little man we love dearly but he had no social skills when we got him and he is the most hyper little thing and has terrible separation anxiety. The one at 9 weeks is now almost 5 and the other one Kyra is almost 2.
