| is your dog sensitive to special needs? My grandmother will turn 90 in November (God willing) and she absolutely LOVES Huey. Why? Because he will sit quietly on her lap forever. She can't hear much of anything, she can't see hardly at all (she asked who I was today because she couldn't see me and knew we had folks from out of town coming in...usually she can fake it as long as she knows who is supposed to be there) and she can never remember Huey's name right off, but she knows she wants that little dog on her lap. Everyone who has a yorkie or silky knows that if they are gonna be on your lap, it has to be their decision, not ours. Huey absolutely will not tolerate being held for extended periods of time unless he initiates it. HE chooses where, who and when to cuddle, but when my grandmother asks for him and I hand him over, he will sit quietly on her lab and tolerate it without so much as a wiggle. She is the ONLY person he will do this for. He sat on her lap today for an hour. She was thrilled and I ignored his pleading "help me" looks. (...avoiding eye contact...I don't see you...) Out of towners were amazed since they had already attempted to hold him unsuccessfully, but he has done this with her and ONLY her since he was a pup.

| An older photo...when I get some from today, I will post them, too, but here is my one remaining grandparent in November 2009 with Huey. Huey was born February 2009, so he was only 9 months old here.

| Huey sounds like a good little guy. Callie loves to be peoples cuddle bug we went to visit my Grandma's Aunt who raised her when Callie was a hyper little pup who just turned 1 and Callie would get on the couch and sit right up against her and would not leave her side she was around 88 at the time I think and not much of an animal person but loved Callie. We had a lab mix growing up who would let little kids pull her tail and be slightly rough with her even though we didn't let it happen persay and she dealt with all of it never snapping or growling or even getting upset. She was like a mom to kids even me and the puppy we got when we had her.

| Oh yes, I know EXACTLY what you mean..... My mother's in her mid 80's.....Harry's an energetic, cuddle-me-when-I-say, bit-of-a-lad, ball of fun..... And yet around my mother he's like a different dog. He sidles up to her, reverses inbetween her legs when she's sitting down, gazes backwards looking longingly into her eyes, touches her gently with a paw, kisses every single one of her fingers (that might have something to do with his love for diamonds ) and generally doesn't act Harry-fied one single bit!!! And I totally love him for it (and so does she....) Sally + Harry x |

| When le just went thru all the emotional trauma with Jimmy and the loss of his dear friend the firefighter, three of my babies were especially sensitive towards Jimmy and they would shadow him and whereever he settled, these three would settle around him, and just look up into his face soooo lovingly.....and Amber would ever so slightly, gently, lick his hand if he placed his hands beside him....Amber is NOT a kisser, so this was very touching for me to witness..... |

| My guys LOVE their grandparents! They'll run up to them when my parents are on the couch watching their evening shows & whoever gets to Grandma's tummy or Grandpa's lap 1st wins. That is a very sweet pic of Huey w/your Grandmother. Maybe they (the dogs) feel a sense of security around our Grandparents just like we did when we were little...The best spot was sitting on Grandpa's lap, for me & we have many pics of my brother sitting on Grandma's lap.

| I am a strong believer in pet therapy, look how dolphins are used in the treatment of autistic children. I believe dogs also have ESP and know when a person needs there special attention.

YT 2000 Club Member | That is such a sweet story! I just think some dogs just know when someone needs a little love and attention. Teeka is a social butterfly. She will go to almost anybody. My parents are in the early 80's and she just loves my Dad. He is a grumpy old man but Teeka brings out the best in him. She always runs to him and jumps onto his lap. I don't understand the connection and why he makes an effort to cuddle her but it is pretty sweet. I even have a picture at Christmas time, with her laying on his shoulder sleeping. She was only 5 months and she already enjoyed his company! She could be a service dog as she also loves children.
