| Puppy left alone for 12 Hrs / day A women is moving into my apartment building and I just found out that she has this 5 month old yorkie that she leaves all day while at work. I never heard of such a thing. How harmful is this to the dog. I do not want her to move in but she now tells me she will hire a dog walker. How often does this puppy need to go out? We have always had dogs , but they were strays and never puppies. Can you please chime in with your thoughts Thank you, Marlene |

| Sounds like a pretty lonely life for the puppy to me. Depending on potty pads, and/or the walking, they potty every time they wake up from a nap, and poop a couple of times a day. |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk, Marlene. A puppy can survive 12 hours alone with piddle pads and food/water available, but this wouldn't be my choice for my puppies.

| Poor puppy. Callie could never go that long with out human interaction it actually makes her sick to not have human interaction. What is the point of having a puppy if its going to be left alone for 12 hours?

| That poor pup. I wonder why she has to work such long hours? What type of job does she have?

| When I got Teena she was 2 years old & had spent 16 hours a day in a laundry room with a "big mean dog". Really sad. (Of course she wasn't potty trained, she shook uncontrollably, & fought for food. Within days & even hours of being in my home she was a changed dog.)

| My goodness! Bella is unhappy when I leave her for just a short time, even if my dh is home. She attacks and kisses me like I was gone for a week.

| i cant imagine leaving a baby alone that long during the day. 12 hours is much to long...lets hope she can get the dog walker to come by a couple of times a day...that would probably make her life a lil brighter.

| Though I always loved dogs I never got one until I was 49 because before that I knew I wouldn't have enough time to spend with them. I wish everyone would think their lives through before they get a dog.

| my dd lives in downtown Chicago. She works-- 8 hour days but when you add lunch and travel time it could be 10 hours away. She hired a doggie day care 2 or sometime 3 days a week and a dog walker on the other days. It was expensive but she felt like it was worth it.

| Poor dog. I understand when emergencies come up, etc.... you do what you gotta do. But to be an every day thing, very sad. I've left Jax for up to 8 hours before but it's not something I like doing, and won't do often, only when necessary. He does not use pads but he is good about holding it, but of course I don't prefer to make him hold it for that long. But yes a dog walker or doggie daycare would be a good option.

YT 1000 Club Member | Gees, that's a LONG time for the little guy, but, there's a limit as to how much you can tell someone about how to treat their little ones. I wonder... If that lady suffers as much as her Dog, knowing it's alone like that ? Two sides to every story...right...she may not be able to help it.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Work hours are always an important factor when placing my pups. I cant imagine how lonely and attention thrived that pup must be not to mention the mess that comes along with an unsurprised pup at that age. I hope she follows through with finding a care taker, someone to take care of this pup while she is working.
