12 hours is a long time. Draco is 5 months and I can't imagine living him home alone that long, I have my sister stop by whenever it's going to be more than 5 hours. If I were you I'd make sure to really insist in a speaker or becoming friendly with a neighbor that can stop by during that time. Yes a puppy that age should be okay if he can relieve himself and has access to water and stuff, but I'm betting he'll end up with anxiety and destructive habits.

One of my co-workers bought a three month old puppy in December. During the day she is gone at least ten hours, if not more. The puppy seems ok, but he spends this time in a crate. He has been very playful and seemed happy each time that I have been around him. However, I would not want one of my dogs to be in a crate for that long. This does not include the time that she is gone on dates.
