People with larger Yorkies should be aware that a hungry hawk will attack larger animals. An 8 or 10lb dog could get sliced up pretty well with those talons so don't take chances. The young birds that are out on their own for the first few months make some daring attacks when they have not had a meal for a few days.

yeah, they'll try to get anything if their hungry enough!

Good news (I think)...

I herd my neighbors little Female yelp about mid afternoon, and rushed out expecting to see a Hawk eating her in their front yard. No Dog, no Bird, so I figured it came from their back yard, which I can't access. So, I don't know just what happened. I'll keep a close eye out for the little lady tomorrow.

Anyway, while I was in the front yard, I looked up, and the Hawk(s) had apparently abandoned their nest. It had been a Female with a little Hawk, I don't think I mentioned that before.

So, they're gone as far as I know, hopefully without a final Yorkie meal.

This terrifies me, I witnessed a hawk swoop down and grab a baby bunny right out of it's nest right in front of me..and boy did that baby scream. Winston never goes out alone, I am always with him...but how scary...that could have easily been him.

That's great! I'm glad your hawks left! I didn't hear any yesterday, but it was raining. If I don't hear them today, I'm hoping they moved on.

Yea, I've had dogs that killed rabbits in the past (non yorkie types). The screaming is awful! To see a hawk do that right in front of you shows that they aren't afraid of humans!! I'm glad Winston was safe! The thought of what a hawk can do with our babies is just scary!

These guys are NOT friendly toward each other

Doesn't it get really hot in the summertime where you are? That dog has to stay out in that heat? What a shame.

UOO YEA, like in triple digits, with the Humidity almost that high !

I'd say something to the guy, but, we have a history of not getting along, and, he doesn't speak English (Asian) all that well. I've frequently went out, most times with the Dogs, and just sorta checked on her, and have never seen her in any obvious distress. But, he "parks" her in a well shaded area, so, its hard to object, since his back yard has holes in the Fence, big enough for a Dane to get through. I'm probably going to get a bad reputation for saying this, but if I thought there was any serious abuse, I'd take her away from him, and dare him to report it. I'd consider it my duty, as a resident and property owner of this County, to intervene and provide assistance by taking that animal into protective custody, should I witness a criminal act of that nature.

We have eagles and osprey. I never worried about them when we had our Shepherd, but now that she's gone and we have little Abigail, I'll be watching. Like a hawk.

Most counties up here have laws about what has to be provided to a dog that is left outside. Here they have to have a house and food and water available at all times. Like what would she do if a storm broke loose while the owner was gone? If she gets left out in rainy weather that would probably be against most ordinances.
I really don't understand why people even have dogs when they are not home to care for them properly.

I heard the laws there are very strict about housing dogs. I wish we had stricter laws here.
