Hawks!

Hope Cinders stay safe!!! We have iguanas roaming our backyard so my babies stay indoors and use their wee wee pads!

Here are a few things you can try to deter hawks and owls. First is mirrors facing straight up. Reflects light and also the get a glimpse of themselves. Second thing is owl or hawk sound being played outside when you see them. They might go away. Think they are Imposing on another's territory. The third is air horn or bike horn. But you do have to desensitize your dog against the sound.

Please remember though these raptors are beneficial to our Eco system . They keep down rats, mice and snakes. Especially in the country areas.

Thanks, I'll look into mirrors too. I used to do stained glass, so I should have mirror in my work room.

I once shot a crow for swooping down on my Gus with a bebe gun. It was huge! Next thing I knew there were like 50 crows flying around. It scared the hell out of me. They didn't leave till I had my son dispose of the dead bird. It was very scary! I also had a deranged pigeon that would go after me everytime I stepped outside. It only went after me. Never bothered any of the kids. I don't know why. So needless to say I am very scared of birds!

Agree completely. We need to protect our dogs but also respect that hawks and predator birds have a role in the environment. I had a hawk siting recently. I installed a fake owl that my vet recommended and I hung 2-3 foot long metallic streamers in my trees. I found some at the local garden store. The streamers are actually attractive but the owl will take some getting used to but as long as it works the owl can stay.

One of my neighbors just called to say she saw foxes!

WoW! I'd never have thought that would happen from shooting 1 crow! That had to be scary!! I don't blame you for being scared. I would be too!

The owl works then... good to know.

Foxes attack dogs too? We had a few of those last fall! recently, there's been black bears seen around. 1 was killed about 3 miles from my house. That was scary.

Sheesh! I like those little chameleons there, but Iguanas are too big!

She's in till her spaying stitches are removed. Then I'm on Hawk watch when she goes out to play. I found some mirror to put out. I have to figure out some good places to put them at.
The hawks were after the neighbors cat this evening. At least it looked like they were to me. They were in a tree close to my patio. The cat hid under my patio table! I went out and scared them away, thank goodness. The cat took off. I saw it run back to it's house, so it's safe. I hope they find better hunting grounds soon.

Amazing what animals and reptiles are lurking outside. Scary stuff!!! I had to iguana proof my house because we found one in our toilet once as it went on our roof and went down the bathroom pipe. Good thing I looked before sitting down!!!!

This pair is hunting IN the trees. I can hear the other birds in there trying to fight off the hawks. A few times I saw the hawks leave and a small pack of birds trying to attack them. I know the hawks got an egg or a baby when that happens.

If they would just go after the moles, skunks, or snakes, I'd be a very happy person!
