YT 2000 Club Donating Member | The Canadian Yorkshire Terrier Club will shortly vote on this issue. Then we submit the Standard Change to CKC for approval, and they in turn submit their bylaw changes to the Dept of Agriculture. I know byzantine, but heck that is the system. And in keeping with what I have posted, I will approve that change! That is breeders' choice - dock or not.

She was an enthusiastic tail wagger and my heart was in my mouth many times as that tail whipped from wall to wall when she greeted me at the front door. Not to mention the morning wake up tail wag in my face ROFL

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ON another note, I did a quick websearch this morning and a article came up that was behind a paywall from the British Veterinary Association - the précis that I read seemed to indicate an ~~25% tail injury rate. When you get back to work, and can access free this stuff, can you see if this is so?

Yes and at a seminar Ilona and I attended we saw in slo mo how this works, both if I remember correctly one agility video, and one flyball video. My breed is usually too heavy to do agility safely and gawd help me I hope we don't have any flyball enthusiasts out there, but some of our lighter females have rocked an agility course.

| Dock I think that would be a great solution, breeders's choice. Glad that humor is allowed and welcome on YT. LOL! The mind boggles with a large dog butt issue, the large tail is also a powerful tool! We love them all, big or small however. Thanks. |

There is a groundswell here on the issue; it has been talked about for years and years. It is a bit of the parcel of difference between working dog breeders and by this I mean the more generic term of a working dog, that is almost all but the truly designed and developed companion dogs, were bred for a specific purpose. You have your field dogs, your guard and protect, your terriers, your retreivers, etc. So if you are a working dog breeder any perceived and justified "edge" you can get you go for. For some of the breeds (not all btw), but high end performance sport enthusiasts and breeders, want a long tail on a breed that the standard for years has been docked. Then there is at least still in my mind, the question of pain how long and how it can affect the dog, and risk of permanent disability - what is the risk? It is why studies, well designed and executed are so important! For me in my BRT breed I happen to really really like the short tail. How-ever for water rescue work it means I need to adapt my dog to be able to do the rescue. You see the Newfies with their long tails swim out and the person they are rescuing grab their long tail, and they tow them back into shore. So how I adapted Magic was to give him a life jacket, and tie a floatation device to his jacket, and then he swims out and around the person bringing that device in close for them to grasp. I actually think it is safer that way (safer for the dog that is). Anyhow I better get off that topic, as I can go on for an hour or more

| Here's a link to a free copy of a research article on tail injuries in docked vs. non-docked dogs. I'll let people draw their own conclusions... http://www.cdb.org/News/Veterinary%2...ort%202010.pdf |
