Just read through this thread, and I can't tell you how dreadfully sad I'm feeling for you right now.....

That ER vet just doesn't sound right and I wouldn't be trusting them.

It sounds like liver shunt to me. It sends them into hypoglycemia but no matter how level your blood glucose levels are they will continue to have problems until the shunt is taken care of. I hope the breeder gets him in to a vet right away and not just try to treat him as though he is only hypoglycemic.

I am so sorry you've had to go through this. I will be praying the little guy gets the help he needs.

That's what I was thinking too. I highly doubt that the breeder will do anything about it, unfortunately...About the tapeworm thing, the mom must be infested w/fleas & the baby ate an infected flea while nursing or something...a breeder to have such unhealthy conditions will not likely do any testing on her breeding stock & highly doubt there's any valid 'health guarantee'. She'll probably offer another puppy, but do heartbroken people get another puppy from the same breeder that they got their sick pup from?

I've called every one I know who could possibly loan me the money to keep him overnight. I'm waiting on my aunt to call back the most likely person who can help. The doc says if he is taken away from iV's it is very likely he could pass away today. I don't know what to do if my aunt can help me I will pay anything for him but if she can't I rather he die with his family.

I have been crying all day. I don't know what to do if she can't afford to help me.

If that poor baby does not make it, you be sure and INSIST on an autopsy, and you want a copy of the autopsy. I would make it very clear to this breeder that the vet has indicated the hypoglycemia is secondary to the possibility of a liver shunt, and if the puppy dies, you need an autopsy to indicate what caused the death, especially if hypoglycemia is a symptom of the actual cause of death. THAT would be covered on a health certificate.

Oh goodness I'm so sorry. Hoping you can get hold f your aunt. Will the vet not make any payment arrangements? What about Care Credit? Is that an option?

Beg that vet to leave the IV in him while you make the 2 hour drive to the breeder, so he wont die on the trip back to the breeder. They can do that....and they can set the rate of infusion...you dont mess with that and make sure there is enough IV fluid in the bag to get you to the breeder....

Unfortunately I am currently unemployed so I can't be approved. And I don't know of anyone who could apply for me.

I once held my dogs hand as he took his last breath, it broke my heart. Take Joey back to the breeder...don't let him pass under your care, you'll never live it down.

I am so sorry to hear you going through this.

How old and how much does this baby weigh?

I don't know anything about liver shunt, but being the ved did mention the liver and with what he is going through are symptoms of this, it makes you wonder. Poor little baby.

Unfortunately he won't do it because the risk with Joey is too high.
