| Yorkie? Hi everyone. My son recently received a yorkie as a birthday gift from his father several months back. Needless to say, it was an unexpected gift. First of all, I've never had a dog before.. so I was fairly surprise and maybe a tad bit agitated that the ex never mentioned anything of it. Well, of course my son (13years) delegated all the responsibility to me. I didn't mind at all. We named him Yogi and I just absolutely, positively, 100% fell in love with the anklebiter. He was so fun and smart. I loved that boy as my own sons. One day, he got into my cats food and that night, started having diarrhea. Next day, Yogi started throwing up so I scheduled a vet exam for him for next day. That same night, I noticed he was weak, but as never having a dog before, I just thought it was from eating cat food. Needless to say, I was at the E.R. from 2am till 7am and Yogi was put to sleep. My heart broke and even now, typing this, I get teary eyed. When I first brought him in for his 1st visit, I didn't realize that the breeder ( my ex husband bought it so please don't judge me) sold him too soon. Yogi came to me at 7 weeks. Way too soon. The breeder also said and I quote from my ex.. (if he looks like he's dying, give him sugar water). Yogi died from hypoglycemia. I still blame myself to this day for being ignorant and not knowing anything about his breed. Maybe I could've prevent it. I had pedialyte and nutrical and gave him that but it was too late? I notified my ex husband what happened and he in turned called the breeder who in turned said that she will replace our puppy but she doesn't have a litter atm. She then said that she has a Morkie breed soon. My ex said ok. 1 and a half month later, she text him and said the 7 week morkie is ready to be picked up. He couldn't get to it so I had to go. When I got there, ( parking lot of a store) (Really?) we met up and she showed me the NEW puppy she GOT from someone else. Apparently, she somehow did not have that litter anymore. She said that it took her awhile to search for one for me and found me this one. When I spoke with her on the phone, she said it was a morkie. When I went to pick up the puppy, she said the guy gave me a purebred Yorkie. HUH? It was cowered up in the corner of this dirty cage, hair all dirty and matted and boy did he stink. This was not what I had in mind at all but who could leave this puppy in this condition? I scooped that puppy up and brought him home immediately. Gave him a bath and found several ticks. Ok, heres the thing. Never seen a tick before so while I was washing the Puppy (we named him Watson) one crawled out and I rinsed it away. Thought it was a spider. Eewww. Ok. Then dried him and noticed several bumps on him. Checked it out and realized, well durr... they were NOT spiders but ticks. Out comes the tweezer and flushed those icky things down the toilet. Watson's been fed but he seems very nervous and he cowers and whimpers a lot. He has a fairly long snout, coarse dry-ish hair, and weighs 3-5 lbs. Maybe because I'm new to the Yorkie breed, but I can't tell if he is PURE bred or NOt. It doesn't matter because he's family now but we just can't decide if we were lied to (things just don't fit together from what she said) or if he really is purebred. Regardless, Watson is NEVER going back to where he came from. My son thought they dyed his hair because his hands came away black. Enclosed is his picture. Avatar is of my beloved Yogi. See the difference? What do you think? Thank you for being patient with this LONG thread.. Nikki |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | First of all WELCOME and - bless your heart for taking Watson into your heart and home, even though he looked so rough when you picked him up. You have a good heart. He is just adorable ! Great face/expression. He does look like a yorkie to me...the one thing that looks a little different is that his fur is more 'fuzzy' than many yorkie coats...? But, I'll leave the verdict up to those who are better at discerning these things. Again, welcome to YT!

| Hello, What a time you have had. I am so glad you rescued that pup, thank you!!! First I will say that I think he looks Yorkie and something else. I could be wrong because they do come in all sizes and shapes! Knowing that the dog has come from these circumstances, and if you haven't done so already, take him to a vet as soon as possible and have him thoroughly checked out, blood work and INFORM THE VET of the environment the pup came from and tell them about all the tics. Thanks for saving this poor boy...Welcome to YT!!

| What an adorable boy I feel so sad for him... At least he is safe now! From the looks of him, he is a mix. He does look like he has some yorkie in him, but not purebred. He also looks older than 7 weeks, but I'm sure the vet could tell you. Congrats on your new puppy

| He's adorable, and it looks like there is a lot of Yorkie in him, but the color is a little off, and his weight is high for being a purebred Yorkie at that age (3 to 5 pounds at 7 weeks), but his weight could work to his advantage, and he might be a healthier dog than Yogi was. He sure is a cutie, and I hope he continues in good health! |

| Watson is really cute I love his face. He very much looks like a morkie to me. About the hypoglycemia you would give nutrical if they had symptoms but you have to follow up by feeding about every 3 hrs for young pups. Many people give nutrical to young pups periodically through out the day as a preventative. The only way I would do that is if my pup showed signs of hypogycemia. There are other yorkie diseases where hypoglycemia can be a symptom like liver shunt so its possible your pup actually died from something more complicated than hypoglycemia. If you have any questions about how to care for your young pup dont hesitate to ask on here. Everyone loves to help

| Hi and welcome to YT! If you're looking for information, this is the right place to be. Be sure to check out the "libraries" toward the top of the main pages and you will find answers to a lot of questions you didn't even know you had. I'm really sorry that you had such a poor experience with your first pup. It is so very sad and tbh, our Princess Sophie would not have made it home from the breeder without Nutrical. She really scared us. I'm kind of undecided as to whether or not your new pup is 100% Yorkie. I really think only time will tell. Do you know his date of birth? Knowing that would be of great help. Your vet should be able to approximate age for you and I, along with others, would highly recommend you taking him to the vet asap!! 3 - 5 lbs. seems like a lot for a puppy, but I could be wrong. Hopefully others with more experience than I will be by to offer you better information. What I can tell you is that Yorkies are all born with black fur. As they grow the color of their hair changes. With this said, I don't think your pup is all that young or maybe if really that young, not 100% yorkie but you already love her so that really doesn't matter does it? When we brought Princess Sophie home, at 8 weeks (4 weeks earlier than the 12 weeks highly recommended for yorkies), she was barely 2 lbs. Today she is a couple weeks short of being 6 months old and weighs in at a whopping 3 lbs. 13 oz. LOL and she's still mostly black with tan face and legs and getting silver or white/blond on her head. She looks, to us, like she's grown a LOT but really she's just a peanut baby! I hope you get your answers quickly and that you will update us with what happens at the vet. Again, welcome!!
