YT Addict | Registering Microchip Question Hello all, During Jenna's recent health scare, she was xrayed to ensure that she did not have aspiration pneumonia from vomiting profusely. Upon examining the films, I found she has a microchip. The rescue I got her from denied she had one. So this is news to me. How do I go about registering the chip to my name now, after having her three years, without suspicions being placed upon me that she is stolen? The "papers" that came with Jenna are just Word documents made to look pretty on a personal computer. I have only one document from the rescue's vet saying she was spayed on such and such a date, given her first rabies shot and when she was born. She is likely not a pedigreed dog, although the rescue owner claimed she was and had been her 'personal' dog that she was forced to rehome because she didn't get along with her other dogs in the house. Is it possible my vet can vouch for me in this instance? They have taken care of Jenna since the first week we got her. It is an AVID chip and I have the number that the vet was able to read using the scanner. Can I just go to the site and print out the forms, pay the fees and have her registered in my name? Or do I have to go back to the rescue and hash it out with them? (Mind they are not the nicest place to visit, it's rather shoddily run, and the owner is not someone I want arguing with me about ownership of Jenna.) Many thanks in advance for all replies.

| You should be able to register her in your name. If she happened to be lost, or stolen, then rescued, the number comes back to the one who chipped her. Avid contacts the original one who chipped so they can contact you but you may find out some history. If she indeed was the rescuer's personal dog, she should have known that she was chipped. YT 1000 Club Member | Those Chips are mass manufactured, and distributed to any number of sources, which install them in all Breed/Species of animals. So, going back to the original distributor wouldn't do any good. You have the Chip Number, and you can register it/you with one or more of the Locator Services at your leisure.

| I think you can just go to the site and fill in forms and pay. I don't think chip registries are in to proving ownership, bc if you did steal a dog, you wouldn't want to register the dog in your name, bc then the real owner could find you.

| What I did 1. Went tovet so they could wand and give me the number. 2. Called Home Again and registered Titus. 3. They asked about xxxxx (Previous owner) 4. I explained he was an owner turn in and we took him in. 5. they took my info and all is well.

| I use Avid chips in my babies. There is a "certificate of ownership" that is with the papers that are sent back to Avid in order to register the dog. If the original owner ever transfgers ownership of the dog to another person, they have to fill out that certificate of ownership with the new owners information, and it has to be sent in to Avid. I am thinkng if you contact Avid, they are going to contact the owner that is listed on that chip, and then you are going to get the full story of how your little dog ended up at that rescue, and if the original owners are still looking for their baby. |

| Wow! What a predicament to be in. I am so praying that this was an owner turn in. I'm sorry this is happening but please just contact Avid and look into the owners who had Jenna microchipped. I understand it has been 3 years, but if they really lost their dog/Jenna...they have a right to know she is alive and well. I don't know how it would turn out, but it's the only thing to do that's right.

Good luck, but I think I would pursue contacting the company and finding out who the dog was originally registered to or you will always have that fear hanging over you. I think if someone had my dog for three years and he was well cared for and loved, I would not want to take that puppy back because it would just be for my benefit and not thinking about the puppy. I wish you the best outcome in this truly. | |
