You should be able to register her in your name. If she happened to be lost, or stolen, then rescued, the number comes back to the one who chipped her. Avid contacts the original one who chipped so they can contact you but you may find out some history. If she indeed was the rescuer's personal dog, she should have known that she was chipped.
