Question Registering Microchip Question

Hello all,
During Jenna's recent health scare, she was xrayed to ensure that she did not have aspiration pneumonia from vomiting profusely. Upon examining the films, I found she has a microchip.
The rescue I got her from denied she had one. So this is news to me.
How do I go about registering the chip to my name now, after having her three years, without suspicions being placed upon me that she is stolen?

The "papers" that came with Jenna are just Word documents made to look pretty on a personal computer. I have only one document from the rescue's vet saying she was spayed on such and such a date, given her first rabies shot and when she was born. She is likely not a pedigreed dog, although the rescue owner claimed she was and had been her 'personal' dog that she was forced to rehome because she didn't get along with her other dogs in the house.
Is it possible my vet can vouch for me in this instance? They have taken care of Jenna since the first week we got her.

It is an AVID chip and I have the number that the vet was able to read using the scanner. Can I just go to the site and print out the forms, pay the fees and have her registered in my name? Or do I have to go back to the rescue and hash it out with them? (Mind they are not the nicest place to visit, it's rather shoddily run, and the owner is not someone I want arguing with me about ownership of Jenna.)

Many thanks in advance for all replies.
