I find it offensive when members critique posts of newbies, especially those outside the States, where nuances, phrases of speech & word choice may be slightly different. Please don't judge the whole orchard by your encounters with a few bad apples.

All 4 of my yorkies are cut short.. I tried to bows and grooming and such.. They wanted NOTHING to do with it. maybe when they grow out of their puppy stage.. but in all honesty its all about how your dog likes the style and how easier it is in you. I have a sheltie and until my groomer shaved her down as a miscommunication I never would have thought of it. I hated it at first then I realized how much my sheltie loved it. | |

| And if you imply I'm cruel to keep it long. Or I have bad choice of wording, which makes me a bad person. Well I have just as much right to think you are stuck up. |

| and for the record for anyone thinks I am some kind of monster. I just want to say, I would always love Jasper regardless. If he had one leg. He is my best friend, the one that helped me when I was sectioned for anorexia and bipolar. And I don't give a crap about his appearance. I just want him to be happy and believe he is part of my family. |

| I am actually disapointed, as I have been a member for an eating disordered forum for the past five years. I won't disclose the name. But never ever have I felt so bad about how I responded and blamed for my words, than I have here in this single post. I believed I was taking a positive step towards recovery in taking an interest in my yorkie baby, other than my own weight and pathetic body issues. |

| I don't think a Yorkie can ever be made to look bad. Those cute little faces are just too adorable. I have seen some pretty "appalling" hair cuts given by horrible groomers though. An owner has a right to expect to pick up their dog with it looking like they requested. It sounds like the OP had no idea that her dog was going to come home with his hair shaved to the skin. That can be quite a shock when it is not what you requested or expected. I certainly understand why she would be upset. I once picked up Gracie minus most of her topknot and was pretty upset about it for days. It takes months to grow a topknot out to the proper length. People get long haired dogs for various reasons. I believe Brit has mentioned in the past that a long haired Yorkie is just not for her. That is fine as long as they are both fine with it. I believe her dog is a bit larger and may not suffer from the cold as some Yorkies do. I know if Gracie were ever shaved to the skin she would have little coverage. She has a nice silky coat but it is not terribly thick so she would have nothing to hold her body heat in if she were shaved. The hair length does help give some insulation. People who choose to shave their Yorkies just need to be aware of how well their dog is able to deal with the lack of coat. I personally like long haired dogs and have had several over the years of various breeds. I don't mind doing what it takes to keep the coat looking good. I actually enjoy it as I'm sure others do as well. I have never seen a well groomed long haired dog that is bothered by the hair. I have seen some people here say that one of their Yorkies is cold all the time while the other gets hot easily so each dog is different and we just need to be aware of our pet's individual needs.
