| Those who've rescued or taken in an older dog... did they know how to play?? Because I guess being that Daisy was a kennel dog, she has no intention of playing..she is SO mellow...just lounges around all day. Not sure how to get her to play with anything? Once in a while she'll toss a sock..but thats it? Is it because of her age? I dont think they slow down in playing that much at only 6, do they? I just wish she were more playful.....

| Well, I've raised all of mine from young puppies. However, each one played all of their lives. Of course, the play wasn't as rough and tumble as it was when they were young. I guess you've tried to get her to play with a squeaky ball, or any type ball, for that matter. Just keep trying. Make it fun. She probably never played but with her litter mates, so she may not be interested. Perhaps she just isn't comfortable enough yet. Also, she may not play at all with the diaper on. Wait until it's off and try again.

| This is my first Yorkie, but I've rescued dogs from humane societies in the past and all of them have been very playful. Maybe Daisy is just naturally mellow.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My pom doesn't play at all and hasn't since she was about 4 years old. Now that i have the puppy she will chase her once in awhile, not to play but to get a treat from her. But she is definately more active and out and about since the puppy. I think some dogs just like to sit back and enjoy.

| Gage, my rescue, did not play much at all when we first got him. All he did was sit under the kitchen table and would back away from you if you tried to get to him. Through endless patience and undying love for him, we have "coaxed" him out of his shell and his little playful personality is shining through He loves to play! His favorite is an old sock that I tied into a knot - I'll sit on the floor and we'll play tug-o-war for the longest time! His little play "growl" is the cutest I'm sure your baby's playful personality will shine soon - just give it a little time, let her get used to you and her surroundings. And one day, who knows, we may be reading a post asking how to get her to stop playing so much...LOL! Best of luck and Merry Christmas! |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | My chocolate lab was a rescue. We got him when he was about 1 - 1 1/2 years. He had been abused and caged and no he didn't really know how to play. We'd throw a ball or something and look at us like "and what am I supposed to do with that?" It was very sad. Now 7 years later he never stops playing.

| Dixie just turned 3 and I got her two weeks ago. She was a kennel dog just as Daisy was and is very shy and timid. She is coming out of her shell more and more every day though. You can tell that she wants to play, and will forget herself for a minute and go chase the ball, but then will catch herself and stop like she thinks she'll get in trouble. She does play bow and stomp her feet in an impish way and wiggles that cute little butt with a toothy smile on her face, but when you respond with playfulness she gets all serious. I think we just have to teach them how to play and that it's ok and fun. |

| All comes in time . When I read your posts , I think Daisy have made big progress in a short time . I rescued a few older dogs that were in worst situations than Daisy and they learned how to play but it took time . |

| I rescues Hallie when she was 2.5 and no, she didn't know how to play or socialize. She was very shy and skiddish of everything and everyone. It has been a year and a half and she LOVES to play now, almost like a puppy discovering new toys everyday. I think you have done a tremendous job with Daisy and we can all tell how much she is loved. She will learn to play in her own time and then there will be no stopping her |

| We adopted our Gizmo at 5 yrs. of age, and he did not know how to play. It just took time, and our oldest son worked with him on learning how to play. He became quite a player!!!! Bet Daisy will also!!!!! Keep us posted. |
