My chocolate lab was a rescue. We got him when he was about 1 - 1 1/2 years. He had been abused and caged and no he didn't really know how to play. We'd throw a ball or something and look at us like "and what am I supposed to do with that?" It was very sad.
Now 7 years later he never stops playing.
