| 2lb yorkie killed in the hands of petsmart.... Hello, I am writing in plea of urgent attention to the negliance of Petsmart Inc. On January 6, 2009, I dropped off two of my dogs at Petsmart located in Daly City CA at around 12:30pm for a grooming service. At around 2:15pm I received a call from Petsmart informing me that my teacup yorkie (Bella) had just been bitten by a husky. I immediately rushed back to Petsmart but upon arrival, the grooming manager Jennifer informed me that Bella had been sent to Banfield hospital located in the store for medical attention. The scenery when I arrived to Banfield was unbearable. Bella had an oxygen mask on and was fighting for survival. Jennifer then rest Bella in my arms but all I can hear was the squirming cry from my poor dog. The doctors advise me to have Bella transfer immediately to an emergency vet hospital for further assistance. Apparently Banfield does not have the apprioate equipment to save Bella. Banfield offered to have an ambulance transport Bella to SFVS but it will take 2 hours before an ambulance can arrive. Bella cannot wait 2 hours! I took matters into my own hands and drove Bella to SFVS myself. On my way to SFVS, Bella was consistently gasping for air and saliva began to drool from her mouth like the symptom of a seizure. These last no more than 5 minutes before she stopped breathing. Bella was rushed into the ER when I arrived at SFVS. It took no more than 2 minutes before the doctor announced that he was unable to revive her. Petsmart is a big company so how something like this can possibly happens under their supervision. I have asked repeatedly for a statement from Petsmart in regards to the events that have led to this tragedy. Instead of getting any cooperation, I was asked to come back tomorrow. Petsmart only inform me that everything is confidently among Petsmart and their cooperate office. They will not release any information. The district manager was very unprofessional for not even taking anything under his or his staff’s responsibility. He gave me a stupid example (if you where driving on a freeway and if a rock come towards you, you would not be able to react-saying if a dog jumps to bite another dog you can’t react fast enough) which is a ridiculous example! The dogs were supervised under their control which means they are fully responsible. I also over heard that the owner of the husky had already told them to keep the husky away from other dogs. If you were to search under DOG OWNERS SUING PETSMART!! I pleading that you guys put this on the air because I want people to know about it and to be more cautious about how dogs are handled and that they should always pay special attention to one dog at a time. This has happened more than once and they should take this more seriously. If you have any question please call:415-793-4237 my name is Julie le Last edited by melissaloi; 01-10-2009 at 06:01 PM. |

| How devasting!!!! I am so sorry this happened to you. I would get a lawyer if it was me and sue them!!! I take my 5 lb baby to Bark & Fitz and the groomer there is amazing. She lets me stay with Odie. I called over a dozen groomers before I found one that would let me stay. I hold Odie while she gives him his trim. I bath him ahead of time and then bring him in. While there I notice many dogs coming and going. Many large dogs. Again my sympathies for what has happened to you. Please seek legal advise. God Bless ... |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I am so sorry to hear about your baby. I would have been devestated. I think I would have gone back in there and they would have had to drag me out. I would also get a lawyer. This is uncalled for and they are liable. I took my boy there once and they snicked him pretty bad and I also had to pick him up at banfield. I also saw the groomers treated the other dogs badly. I NEVER take my boy to Petsmart anymore. I actually learned to groom him myself. Again my heart goes out to you. |

| i am so sorry julie your heart must be broken i used to go to banfield and thought everything was good there...well until they were so rough with bentley when we took him in to get neutered that he went into cardiac arrest and temporarily died...they WERE able to revive him but they did in fact kill him he is a wiggler and they used too much force trying to hold him still while taking the pre-op bloodwork...i have pictures of the bruises (about 5 inches long and dark purple)....and then they tried to blame it on my dog and a nonexistent cardiac condition my heart hurts for you for the loss of your baby

Thor's Human Donating Member | That is incredibly awful. I'm so very sorry. My guess, and it is just a guess, is that the PetSmart lawyers make sure that no one takes responsibility because it could come up in a lawsuit later. Unfortunately, that's just how it is these days. My deepest condolences. |

| Petsmart should be sued off their assess! I do not know why they are not taking full responsibilty for this tragedy. They allowed A aggressive Huskey to be in contact with a tiny Yorkie in sickning. How in the hell did they explain themselves? Their is no excuse for their behavior. pLease seek out legal counsel ASAP! Your little baby had to been in such pain. this is awful and totlaly discusting on Petsmart's behalf. Raise hell is what you need to do , and get a good lawyer. I am very sorry for your loss of Bella. I too do not leave my Suzi alone with the groomer's either. I think if the groomer they are being watched then they are more cautious. However, I still don't get it why a much bigger dog was able to attack a itty bitty yorkie under those circumstances. Very disturbing.

| sad i am so sorry to hear that. it really hurts my heart to know that they would let something like that happen. i took my dog to petsmart to get groomed and they did a horrible , horrible job on her. she was so scared that she was shaking like crazy when i went to pick her up. i was very upset on how they treated her. they asked me what breed she was and i told them a yorkie mixed with s**t zu and the groomer actually called her a mutt. ever since then i have never took my baby back there again. if i was you i would sue the HELL out of them because they were responsible for your little one. MAKE THEM PAY!!! |

| Contact their corporate office immediately. The local store and the idiots there probably are not authorized to do anything. I would contact a lawyer for advice too. I am so sorry. This should not have happened to you or your poor baby.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I am SO SORRY. I barely have words for it. I'm sorry to bring this up right now, but if it were me - I would get a lawyer and sue them. This doesn't have to be about money - but I would so for as much money you can, enough so that it gets Petsmart's attention so that this NEVER happens again - so that the proper measures are put in place so this can never happen again. I'm sure there are others to whom this has happened - and you may even be able to file a class action suit. My heart just breaks for you.

| I am so, so, so sorry to hear of your terrible experience, how awful for you and your precious little dog Of course they are responsible, but like someone else mentioned they probably have lawyers to make sure they don't admit any kind of responsiblity. Hugs to you, my deepest condolences on your loss |
