I am so sorry. I'd go over his head to the General Manager.

Being I am a first time owner of a dog I wasn't sure what I was suppose to do as for as nail trimming, ear hair, etc. I couldn't stand the fact that I would have done something wrong on my own and hurt my baby.. So I decided to take her to Petsmart. When I walked in I should have known something wasn't right, the workers there seemed so unprofessional! There was one dog getting its ear hair trimmed, and she was yelping, now I don't know if its suppose to be this way or not, but again being a first time owner I asked the woman "Is that dog ok?". She informed that the dog always done that and it was normal. I thought well they are groomers... I should have went with my gut feeling and walked back thru the door I came in. I explained to the woman what I wanted. she told me to leave "Madea" and come back in 2 hrs to pick her up. After I left I ran a few errands but something wasn't feeling right...after about an hour of kicking the feeling around , just decided to call and tell me that I was on my way back. The person that answered the phone told me ok that Madea was ready. When I went inside to get Madea I thought I was going to pass out! They had my baby on the FLOOR PLAYING with something that was suppose to be a toy, in a PILE OF DOG HAIR! other DOGS HAIR.... she handed her to me and they had put a bow in the top of her hair, the bow they used was the rubberband type, they had this bow so TIGHT on my Madea's head that when I went to touch the bow Madea pulled away from my hand and yelped which told me it was entirely too tight! I asked the woman why did they put that bow in, considering I didn't ask for one? She stated that all Yorkies wear bows! Again I said I didn't ask for one... The next thing this woman did was the WRONG thing for her to do! She reached out and RANKED the bow out of my dogs head! ... Madea yelped and when I looked she had a bald spot where that bow was! That was it for me, I kindly handed Madea to my husband, and I showed her how it felt to have hair ripped out of her head! Yes that move landed me a nice trip to the Metro Court house but I would do it again! when I went to court I told the judge what happened & that I would do it again! Needless to say I don't go to Petsmart anymore! and I bet you the next time that woman decides to pull a dogs hair she will remember what it feels like.... This situation is what landed me here at YT..... I decided that just because someone says they are groomers doesn't always mean they are the right groomer... Since I've found someone that lets me stay with Madea while she is working on her, but for anyone I suggest reading everything about the place your considering! The BBB should have information on major places like Petsmart....
You go, Good for you! I would have done the same thing.

On January 6, 2009, I dropped off two of my dogs at Petsmart located in Daly City CA at around 12:30pm for a grooming service. At around 2:15pm I received a call from Petsmart informing me that my teacup yorkie (Bella) had just been bitten by a husky. I immediately rushed back to Petsmart but upon arrival, the grooming manager Jennifer informed me that Bella had been sent to Banfield hospital located in the store for medical attention. The scenery when I arrived to Banfield was unbearable. Bella had an oxygen mask on and was fighting for survival. Jennifer then rest Bella in my arms but all I can hear was the squirming cry from my poor dog. The doctors advise me to have Bella transfer immediately to an emergency vet hospital for further assistance. Apparently Banfield does not have the apprioate equipment to save Bella. Banfield offered to have an ambulance transport Bella to SFVS but it will take 2 hours before an ambulance can arrive. Bella cannot wait 2 hours! I took matters into my own hands and drove Bella to SFVS myself. On my way to SFVS, Bella was consistently gasping for air and saliva began to drool from her mouth like the symptom of a seizure. These last no more than 5 minutes before she stopped breathing. Bella was rushed into the ER when I arrived at SFVS. It took no more than 2 minutes before the doctor announced that he was unable to revive her.
Petsmart is a big company so how something like this can possibly happens under their supervision. I have asked repeatedly for a statement from Petsmart in regards to the events that have led to this tragedy. Instead of getting any cooperation, I was asked to come back tomorrow. Petsmart only inform me that everything is confidently among Petsmart and their cooperate office. They will not release any information. The district manager was very unprofessional for not even taking anything under his or his staff’s responsibility. He gave me a stupid example (if you where driving on a freeway and if a rock come towards you, you would not be able to react-saying if a dog jumps to bite another dog you can’t react fast enough) which is a ridiculous example! The dogs were supervised under their control which means they are fully responsible. I also over heard that the owner of the husky had already told them to keep the husky away from other dogs. If you were to search under DOG OWNERS SUING PETSMART!!
I pleading that you guys put this on the air because I want people to know about it and to be more cautious about how dogs are handled and that they should always pay special attention to one dog at a time. This has happened more than once and they should take this more seriously.

Having worked for Petsmart, I can tell you that you have every right to ask for your vet bills to be reimbursed, and to seek punitive damages etc. The Grooming Salon Manager wasnt even allowed to NOT go with you to the vet...that is HER responsibility to accompany you and cover the bill. And Petsmart should be sued for negligence in this case for sure. I am extremely sorry and offer the biggest condolences to you, I cant fathom what you are going through. Go directly to a lawyer, let them deal directly with corporate.

Blessings Always,
Kiera

I had to sue Petsmart after having been a groomer there and I can tell you the managers are ambiguous and give you the run around. Go directly to a lawyer.

Oh yes, when they knicked my boy and they took him to Banfield to be looked at they paid for everything. The grooming itself and the antibiodics they gave him. But they owe you alot more. Again I am so sorry!

Please accept my condolences. What a horrible thing to happen. I'm new to YT but I did post once asking about the safety of Petsmart. I was given just a couple of answers but I must say this answers my deepest fear and you have saved my Broden life or his mental health...thank you. Please seek legal action...do not just hope this will go away, that is what large corp. bank on. Us not doing anything!!

And Bravo to you Madea Mom I know I would have done the same thing!!!

Cry sad

That is horrible and shoulsd have never happened these people need to get their act together. No one should ever have to worry about leaving their dog with a professional groomer. They need to be punished for this. I will pray for you that God will ease your heart from this terrible pain.

I am so sorry for your loss of your precious baby. There is no excuse for something like that happening. I can't imagine your pain. I will be praying for you.

I am so very sorry about your loss. That is probably one of the worst ways to EVER lose a pet.

I have a yorkie and had 2 golden retrievers. One of my goldens passed of old age this past September and making that decision was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life.

Yours shouldn't have had that decision FOR them at the hands of an irresponsible company.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

If it helps any, I will not find myself going to petsmart for anything anymore.

My daughter has a husky and I've never left Roxie alone with her. They've always gotten along just fine and used to play alot. Not so much since the husky had a litter of pups about a year ago. They've never been unattended for a split second even. While I'd like to think that Kota would never hurt Roxie I won't take my chances it's just not worth it. Besides, one playful bite that's just a little too rough can be so deadly to a small dog. Knowing that Kota is a husky I realize that I just can't fully trust her. Also, PetSmart should have to pay for this deadly mistake. It's not about the money it's about making a point and hitting them where it hurts and not allowing such a tragic mistake to ever be made again.
