| Another thing.....Some yorkies grow until they are 18-24 months old...some grow fast and then slow down around 6 months.....some grow, stop, then grow some more. All three of mine grew at different rates and stopped growing at different times. So did my friends four yorkies which all have the same father but 3 different mothers. My Rily grew pretty steady until around 18 months old. My Saydee grew fast for 6 months, stopped for about 6 months, then filled out some more after her spay. My Minnie Mia grew very slow at first.....I thought she would never hit 3 pounds. Then she too filled out after her spay.

YT 2000 Club Member | I totally agree that you never know how much they will weight! My breeder estimated Teeka to be around 3 lbs and she is 7 months and 3.9 lbs. already! I would think she will be closer to 4 or 5 lbs when full grown. I could be wrong and she could stop growing, though I doubt it very much!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Clyde was predicated by be 7 pounds fully grown and Dexter was predicated to be between 6-8 pounds fully grown ... They both well exceeded the weight that both the breeder & the weight chart said they would be. Dexter came from a very reputable breeder, too. I definitely agree, weight isn't something that can be accurately predicated with puppies. I really want to own a smaller Yorkie one of these days (like 5-7 pounds). So the next Yorkie I get is going to be an adult in need of a home so I can make sure to get the desired weight that I want. I think getting an adult is the only way to truly ever guarantee the weight of your dog. Last edited by Clyde_Dexter; 02-12-2013 at 05:11 PM. |

Just because a Yorkie weighs 11, 16, 19 pounds does not automatically make them overweight. It just makes them a larger Yorkie. We all come in different shapes and sizes. The world would be pretty boring if we all followed the charts

If your baby's body grows to a 6 pound frame and he only weights 4 pounds then he will not be healthy. He will be underweight and sickly.

My ZoE was predicted to be 6lbs (my last yorkie was exactly 5lbs) so I thought ok..about the same. Well ZoE is a few ounces shy of 10lbs. She's not fat....she's just big. She's taller, longer, bigger, but not chubby at all. Her brother looks exactly like her, but literally half her size. No idea why she grew so much....but then I've no idea why my son is a whole foot taller than me either (and half a foot taller than his dad). Maybe is something in the water ???

Both of my yorkshire terrier's are larger in structure, but are VERY learn and in shape. My yorkies are free to eat whenever they are hungry because they got so much exercise daily if I constricted their food they would probably end up being underweight. | |
