| You should never ever use a collar on a small breed dog to hook the leash to or your are setting them up for a life of Collapsing trachea. Collars are for tags ONLY harness for hooking the leash to.

| It can also effect them poorly when they are pups. I used only a collar when Callie was a pup because I didn't know better and she now has collapsing trachea.

| I feel bad. I've always walked my sister-in-law's Maltese Lexi with the leash attached to the cat collar she wears. I've always seen my brother and my sister-in-law do that... I didn't know small breed dogs shouldn't be walked using a collar. Poor Lexi |

| Don't be too hard on yourself because Callie has CT. My Zada's trachea is totally collapsed and she has never worn a collar in her entire life. But using a collar for training, walking and such is definitely a very bad choice and "can" cause damage to the throat and trachea.

| Both. Collar for ID tags ONLY. Harness for walking on a leash. If you're baby is young (under 18 months) you can find inexpensive harnesses at Petco/PetSmart taht will get the job done, help get the pup use to it, and not break the bank. When your pup is done growing, you can invest in something like a Buddy Belt. I personally love them. They're leather, will really mold to your baby's body, and will get buttery soft with time and use. I only have one pup, but I'm already up to 3 BB's and looking at possibly more. (I keep forgetting the harnesses and like to keep a spare in each car) I tend to suggest waiting to "upgrade" to a BB because they will set you back a few $$ (Starting at around $40). It's a shame to spend that much on a BB they will grow out of in a few months.

| We use both. During the day I keep a breakaway cat collar on Avery with his ID information in case he gets loose. It comes in handy because yesterday I came home to it on the floor by a bag you can tell he was rustling in... Saved his life We use harnesses to walk with, but never ever keep it on after that. Plus, we sleep with the breakaway cat collar in case of night emergencies.

![]() For the most part, day to day and at night, we use cloth kitty breakaway ones. They work really well and don't fall off as much as the name implies.
