We do the same. Although, Kaji has a BB leather collar (with buckle not breakaway). We use it as his special occasion collar. Meaning, I'm with him the entire time he's wearing it.
For the most part, day to day and at night, we use cloth kitty breakaway ones. They work really well and don't fall off as much as the name implies.
