We use both. During the day I keep a breakaway cat collar on Avery with his ID information in case he gets loose. It comes in handy because yesterday I came home to it on the floor by a bag you can tell he was rustling in... Saved his life
We use harnesses to walk with, but never ever keep it on after that. Plus, we sleep with the breakaway cat collar in case of night emergencies.
