agree here with LadyJane...

Not sure why you would have even typed it...thought it....and yes I find it offensive, sorry but I do...."My breeders lie" would be more suitable...strange to me that you even considered their heritage in titling your post...anyways...apology accepted please ask admin to change it...

also, glad your pup is doing well, you really should consider getting to the vet sooner or spend some quantative time reading here. You need to know what Nutracal is and a few other things about a pup that has been removed from its mom way too young. Please feel free to ask any questions but please read...and read some more!!!

I suspect too much abbreviation is the culprit making it appear as a stereotype for an entire, fabulous IMHO nationality.

I have good, close, very dear German friends. I lived in Germany (FRG) for 3 years and LOVED IT...and Copperas Cove before that......I still communicate with some who live there by email...others came here or moved to Australia or other places. I have met many German people here as well who I did not meet in country. Lying is NOT a trait I would think of when thinking of anyone I know who is German or whom I met in Germany. The Germans I met and know were/are some of the kindest, nicest, sweetest, smartest, and most fun people. I was amazed by the talent. German engineering is amazing. And the model trains, and crystal...OMG...the crystal! I got my crystal in the Black Forest and it is beautiful. Also, the cars...wonderful...loved my SL450. My motorcycle was engineered for the autobahn...called the "Pan European" there. Oh, and the castles, and volksmarches, food, wine, beer...the wursts are he best...I miss the white schnitzel so much...yes...I had so much fun and still miss it terribly. Total strangers at Bad Durkheim invited us to join their group in the Wine Fest tent and we had SUCH FUN!!!

I sincerely believe the OP means only that specific 'breeder' and only because OP has caught this particular German 'breeder' in a lie and is now 'suffering' dealing with the consequences of bringing home a 'too young' pup for which she may have been unprepared, since she trusted the 'breeder' maybe a bit too much in this case.

Hi - just wanted to let you know I changed your thread title a bit. I don't think you meant any offense, and I think we all understand that. But, we wouldn't allow other threads have titles that made statements about nationality, color, gender, sexual orientation etcetera - so I hope you understand why we had to change it.

And BTW, I did tell the OP that I understand what her intent was. Not sure why she or anyone else needs to defend it. The bottom line is that we need to always TRY to be sensitive to people and I really DO have a problem with broad generalizations.
Just now seeing this response. I have been stereotyped all my life and as such have learned to grow a thick skin, so no, this wouldn't bother me. I would have to read the entire sentence to know what the person was talking about, before I let a title bother me.
You are right in one being careful about generalizations Linda, just me personally, I read line by line and take it in the context in which it was written.

That's mesed up that they lied to you. On the brighter side, your pup is in good hands now.

I'm not offended and didn't noticed until I read all the comments. Whose not offended really isn't the issue though.

All this really scares me! We were originally scheduled to pick up Princess Sophie on Feb. 8th and they tell us she will be 9 weeks of age. She did say we could leave her longer if we wanted so I talked with my DH about not picking her up till 12 weeks (Mar. 1st). DH doesn't think we need to wait that long but I think I can win him over. What I'm afraid of is what if our breeder does the same thing to us (lie about how old she is)? Can anyone offer me some comfort here?? I know about Nutri-Cal and are prepared to use it. Is there anything else I can do ahead of time?

You'll get a lot of replies that it's HIGHLY recommended for the pup to be with her mom and siblings until 12 weeks. For babies this small (breed) it's especially important for behavioral growth.

Is the puppy registered? When we have a litter, we register the litter and we get registration papers for each puppy in that litter. When I sell my babies, I sell on spay/neuter contrtact...as we are sitting at my dining room table, going over all the finanlities, I show the new owners the registration papers of dam, sire, as well as the blank paper they will get so they can register their baby when they provide me the vets letter saying the baby has been spayed/neutered. I write, in front of the owner, their name at the very top of the registration application paper they will be sent. I am saying all that because at the top of that page, is the dam's name, sires name, LITTER REGISTRATION NUMBER and the DATE THAT LITTER WAS BORN. You can look at that paper and get that information.....now, that is not to say they may not be lying about when the litter was born, but they are lying all the way back to the AKC, not just to you.....and there is nothing you can do about that.

Judy, I have never acquired a pet from a breeder despite having no shortage of fur buddies throughout my life, but what an honor it must be to deal with someone as honest, open and up front as you. I just love it and feel privileged just to read the wisdom you write here. If only all breeders (people?) were worthy of trust the way you are. {{{Hugs}}}

Thank you for the kind words, but I am sure all the reputable breeders on here and out there, all do essentially the same thing. I learned that behavior from many, many reputable, ethical breeders with integrity and ethics in what they do in their breeding programs. All you need to see is the date that litter was whelped at the top of that page. If they are telling you ANY other date, get up and leave....they are either lying to YOU, or the AKC, or something else is askew....may not even be a puppy from THAT litter....that is why I put the persons name, in front of them, at the top of their babys page....I have even allowed the owner to write something at the top of the page .....that way, they know there was NO switching of papers or their puppy. The absolute worst thing that could possibly happen to you as a breeder, is to get caught flat footed, in a lie....no matter how little you may feel that lie is.....there is absolutely NO reason to lie about anything.....it will absolutely destroy your reputation and any feelings of trust your owner has in you. (and when a breeder tells you thery can not keep your baby until 12 weeks old because they are leaving town....that dog dont hunt!)

That was MY first thought...and a huge "Uh Oh!"...when I read that the breeder was planning a trip and couldn't keep the pup until 12 weeks...I seem to recall AFTER saying they would, but I am completely inexperienced with a breeder (or how they conduct their placement affairs) other than knowing some personally (non-Yorkie breeds...outside of YT)...none of whom would EVER dream of doing that, and if necessary, would just take the pup along on their trip and connect with the new owner after returning. In fact, several have, and even taken them on trips while puppy sitting for their placed pups.

I hesitated to...and did not...say anything at the time but no reason for me to do so, since there are so many here so much more qualified to comment on THAT behavior than me.

Your description is the first introduction for me as to how that occurs...since I never had a reason to be involved nor thought to inquire of my friends...lol, and I still feel that your method is completely honorable, and am thrilled to hear that it is typical of all ethical breeders. I shall keep that in mind should I ever have an opportunity to acquire a breeder placed puppy. Thank you!

No it wouldn't have bothered me. I've been dealing with it all my life especially since I'm a military brat and been all over the world with many different nationalities. A majority of my friends are of different ethnicities. I'm very open-minded with a thick skin and have been raised not to get offended when someone uses the "n" word, etc. if I read a title with "blacks lie" in the title, I would read to see the reason for the title. If it said black ppl always do this or these stupid black ppl did that then that's a reason to get upset but I made it clear what my intent was. The breeders were German and used the language barrier to make me think the date was different. That's what I meant. And my reason for defending myself? You put this on my question and now I have all these comments that have nothing to do with the point of the comment. You could've sent a private message and I could've fixed it but u make me sound like I meant harm or something when I didn't. That's why I defended myself. Once again that was not my intent but thx for making it seem like it was.

I have read in other threads here on YT that sometimes Yorkies may develop at a slower rate than other breeds. Meaning sometimes their teeth do not all come in as soon, etc. Your puppy is facing some challenges that other pups at that age may not be. Maybe offering softer foods and foods that smell good to him, such as others have suggested, will help. At this age you really cannot spoil them. What goes into the body now is helping to develop strong, healthy, bones and organs. Hypoglycemia is very important to watch for but you also need to consider the puppy's long term health. He is a baby and needs to be treated as such. I hope you can find a good combination of foods that will help him to grow into a healthy little dog.

It is pretty common for some breeders to lie about the age of puppies in the states as well. Many people want their dogs to be really small so the breeders feel they can fool a buyer into thinking they are buying a tiny by selling it earlier. Of course there are several other reasons they want to be rid of the puppies sooner but that tops the list. Your little guy is going to need some added care but hopefully he will be fine once you get him trough this.
