Like I said, the dog I watch often (Boston terrier/Beagle mix) ... all of his Nylabones look worse than this. They never have the ends on them. To me, that means he ingested it all somehow. They end up looking like just a 5 inch stick .. it's hard to explain. But ya know how the ends, they make it look like a bone? Those ends are never there on his! lol. He's about 18lbs. I notice the owner buys new ones very often. I was just hoping to have another option for him to chew, but I guess it's gonna be a no-go. I don't think they're particularly 'dangerous'. Which is why I was considering letting him chew on them... but oh well.

I have a tiny nylabone somewhere, plastic one, that I know he ate up pretty fast. But it was tiny, so I just assumed it was normal. I'll see if I can find it.

My pups who like to chew, gnaw on Dura Hard Nylabones all of the time without any issues....but if they bit ends off, out they would go. They could live without chewing.

When he's just by himself, at night time, he gets really worked up from about 6-7. I'll play with him, and we do training, but on a day like today (snowy and rainy), he will start driving me nuts. He finds anything on the floor (we have a 4yr old living here), picks it up, brings it to me, starts running. I can't ignore it, because I don't want him eating her toys lol. He's just such a better dog when he can have 30 mins of chewing and go lay down. Here's the petite sized ones in his toy box. Now these he did super fast, like literally in 15 mins. And this what he does, he chews them to that point and that NEVER touches them again. Thanks for everyones tips and advice though!! Maybe I'll get a huuugee size Flexi and test it out on him. It's gift card money, so at least I'm not wasting my own money!

![]() ![]() You're lucky, I wish my dog thought of it as high value! *le sigh* ... or didn't destroy his so fast, like a freakin' vulture dog. It'd be a lot lighter on my wallet. Dogs are attracted to a lot of gross things, btw. They're dogs! Jax would gladly munch on deer poop all day if I let him. But he also enjoys finding plastic to chew on... drives me nuts. His fav toy ever is a plastic cap from a water bottle. Luckily he doesn't swallow them, he just flips them around.

![]() Back on topic tho, once this snow slows down a bit, we're probably going to make a petsmart trip and buy him a giant flexi nylabone and I'll see if he likes it, and how long it lasts. It would be nice to have another option, long lasting option. Otherwise I'll just have to make Kongs a lot more exciting! I do not give him a bully every night, so we need things for in between.

| ![]() You don't have a vulture dog. ![]() ![]() Obviously we don't give edible chews here. My dogs can't have them for medical reasons. I think they are completely unsafe. And yucky to have on furniture...IMO they are a breeding ground for bacteria. We use Nyla. Ellie gets Flexies. She was never interested until she got a brother and watched him chew. As long as brother doesn't loosen pieces for her she oes fine with them. If grains start to come off continuously they get thrown out. It took Ry a bit to get pieces off the huge Flexies. But then a big pirce came off soit got thrown out. He has had two varieties of the Duras. The second is like the one you posted. I don't like it. Sharp pieces started comingoff immediately. The kid e ad before was a bit better. Lasted longer before doing that. Seemed a bit stronger. But still getting the grains off with the Duras has irritated him. It bothers his throat. We went as far as sending an xray to VIN over this and now thinking about it it seems mostly from Nla. ![]() I think we are going totry the stongest Flexi we can find and just watch closely. ?they are much better for the toofers anyway. All of those really hard bones are a 4th premolar break waiting to happen.

| ![]() I'm not getting defensive Brit. LOL. You can call my dog food choices junk if you want to - I know a lot of people don't agree with home cooked food or my back up royal canin. It's a sensitive topic for some for sure, but I answer to myself. You should do the same. - if bully sticks are the chew for Jax, then continue feeding them.

![]() It just seemed like you were getting defensive because some don't seem to like nylabones, but my bad if you weren't! Lol I was just not trying to get a debate going in this thread. Anyway thx EllieMay, yeah Ry sounds similar to Jax! I think like I said we'll try a larger Flexi and go from there. Otherwise he will still get the occasional bully even though I was tired of buying them.

| ![]() My boys are both super aggressive chewers, but thankfully they can live without chews -- they don't turn to things they aren't supposed to chew. Still, I wish I could give them something I feel really good about and don't have to supervise to the point of holding the chew myself. I stopped giving them ingestible chews over a year ago because of the health hazards/recalls. Max chipped a tooth on a Himalayan. ![]() The only thing we still use on occasion are CET chews, which I hold while they chew and do not let the boys eat. We buy the mediums which are supposed to be impossible for smaller dogs to get a piece off of, but Mr. Teddy-Scissors-Teeth can do it. Max turns them into something resembling a wet potato chip and a choking hazard rather quickly. Max chews on soft toys daily. I keep a close eye on the toys to make sure he isn't getting stuffing out. The ugly toys I make out of tightly woven polyester last the longest. Both of the boys will gnaw on the Extreme Kongs (without any treats). Teddy finally killed one of our 3-year old Kongs. The Dura Chew Nylabones, we tried when Max was younger and he gnawed off shards and made them into sharp dangerous things. We tried different styles and had the same result. I wouldn't trust my guys with any kind of real bone. They would definitely crack their teeth. I wish I had normal chewers.

| ![]() Joel will like any bone that another dog already chewed, then he likes it. I loooove Nylabone, i'm obsessed with buying anything Nylabone haha, but obviously Joel isn't a strong chewer, he's only 7 1/2 pounds ![]() |
