How to get your dog interested in Nylabones Jax is a chewer. If he doesn't have something to chew every now and then, he will drive me crazy and go find my little sisters toys, or anything else he finds on the ground. I got him some Himalayan Chews but he really doesn't seem to like those either. He is just not interested. Never been interested in Nylabones, either, except for the Flexi kind but he ate a pretty huge chunk off of it really fast, and it made me nervous. If I buy the Flexi kind, from now on, I'll buy the huge ones. But is there anything you can do to get a dog more interested in a Nylabone to chew on? I was thinking about putting it in a baggy maybe with some chicken broth or something and putting it in the fridge for a day? I dunno how that would work out, lol, I was trying to think of ways to get him to enjoy chewing them. If he doesn't have something to chew, he'll start to drive me nuts. |
I use the flexi bones and I do buy the larger sized one for Barney who is an aggressive and deliberate chewer. He won't take off big chunks, but he will chew for long periods of time and I did not like the petite size. So I buy the blue dental nylabone in the "regular" size. I wonder if he would like it if you associated the nylabone with something great. Like a reward when he chews it? You've been excellent at training him, perhaps he would chew it on command if you motivated him some how?? The chicken broth thing seems like it could be a pain. I wish I could think of something else. |
May I suggest the Galileo nylabone :) it's amazing. When I used to have a big dog growing up we used to boil them in chicken broth. They last a really long time and are made to only break off in little scrapes, so they can only wittle at it instead of breaking off big chunks Nylabone Galileo Bone Dog Chew Toy, Souper:Amazon:Pet Supplies |
I just put a bit of peanut butter on the bones before I give it to them and they love it..hugs, |

How much are they supposed to chew off those flexi's? When I got Jackson the medium (I think) sized flexi chew over a year ago, he did this in about 30 mins (not our pic, found online): Attachment 378887 And I just didn't feel comfortable with it. So if I try flexi again, I'll probably get one of those monster sized one, or wolf or giant. They are way too expensive for him to chew throug that fast. |

have you ever considered Elk Antlers ? they wear down slowly . you can buy split antlers as well as whole ones. this is where i get mine.. http://www.bestelkantlers.com/c/2/elk-antler-chews |
Yes he won't touch antlers either lol. The only thing he truly loves and will chew on is bully sticks but I got sick of spending the money on them. It's only worth it of I buy the jumbo ones, and they are pricey. But they last us the longest. |
Definitely smear some peanut butter on it. It always entices mine to chew. |

It's a shame he doesn't like antlers. Bailey loves them more than anything else we've tried. If Bully Sticks are his preference, you might find your best deals on ebay. Here's a list of them: bully sticks in Dog Supplies | eBay |
Antlers can crack teeth. |
Yeah I worry about antlers cracking teeth to be honest. But the nylabones(dura ones) are pretty darn hard too so I would think the risk would be the same but I don't know. I won't buy bully's from places like eBay etc because the one time I did they were so beyond smelly and I never know where they're coming from. I really like bestbullysticks. The prices are great but it is still just expensive lol. We have some Himalayan Chews that are untouched too. It's a shame! |
