| Need advise....not sure what to do In my neighborhood there is a family that has two pugs that are what appears to be left outside 24 hours. I don't know this for sure but everytime I ride by this house they are out there no matter what the weather is. This family moved in this house in the summer time so when I would see them outside in a fenced in yard, I really didn't think too much about it as they had dog houses and water. At first they only had one pug and then they got another one. I would say one is about 4 lbs and the other one (adult) looks to be about 10lbs. Today it is raining snowing and the temperature is around 37 degrees and you guessed it, they are outside. It seems, no matter what the weather is they are outside but of course I can't say for sure if they are outside 24 hours. It may appear that way to me because I don't ride by there every day. Although I don't ride by there every day, logic tells me they more than likely are outside 24 hours. I've started to change my route to work just so I can see if they are outside. I rode by there at night a couple of times and they were outside. Should I continue to monitor to confirm my suspicions that they are in fact being left outside all day and night and then call aspca? |

| Tough one...I don't know if the ASPCA would even get involved if they have a yard, dog house and food/water. Good luck with this one!

| What about animal control? It's so heart breaking seeing these little guys outside in this kind of weather. I will never understand people who get pets only to neglect them. It's not like they have to have them. |

| Well, that depends on your area resources. When I lived in Michigan, the only place to call was the pound and they euthanized dogs that were left there longer than 7 days. So I never called that place ever. Where I live in Virginia is different because the city and county contract with the SPCA. All the pets go there and they are a no kill shelter with a very high adoption rate. I have taken strays there and known they will get good care and a new home. But if the owner has water, food and shelter available to them at all times in their yard, then it would be up to animal control or the local ordinances if they still see it as neglect due to the size of the dogs. You should start by investigating your options in your area and the local rules. I think I would call and complain because maybe the people need an eye opener that it's not ok and will bring the dogs inside. Regardless, dogs that small (or any dogs) that are left outside all the time, especially in extreme weather, are neglected. |

| It does depend on local laws. Most areas require a dog to have food, water and shelter. If the houses are not suitable for this type of weather then you may be able to get someone involved. Such small dogs in deep snow would appear to be a real threat to their lives. We just got about a foot of snow here in NYS. I can't imagine leaving a pug out in such weather. Do they have neighbors close by? You would think the neighbors would be bothered by the situation. Pugs are not outside dogs. Who on earth would buy such dogs and leave them outside??!! They probably figured that buying another one would keep the first dog company. Great logic. Here is another reason why pet stores should be put out of business! |

| I personally would call animal control. I have no idea why people get dogs if they are just going to leave them out side all the time that is so unfair to the dog who needs some human companionship.

| Check up on the laws first and contact Animal Control. Same as the posts above I do not understand why people have dogs just to leave them alone or outside 24/7 its pointless and dam right cruel! For me its like leaving your child outside in the snow... its just not acceptable and its shocking! Dogs are like Children and that's how they should be treated. You would not leave your child in a boiling hot car .. and either should you leave your dog. You would not leave your children in the garden for hours and hours... so why would you leave your dog there? I don't get some people! Angers me! I hope these babies are saved! xxxx

This is why it bothers me so much. When it comes to children and animals, I get so upset because they rely on adults for 100% of their care. | |

| Me? I hate seeing dogs left outside all the time. However, not all people in society are like that. Some people (a lot I know here in the South) believe all dogs are outside animals. Back in the day, they were really. If the dogs were left outside in below freezing conditions or like 100 degree plus heat, that is when I would look into calling animal control or someone. It breaks my heart and I would ache evrytime I saw it, but I just know that all of society doesn't think like I do.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | It is just one rule doesn't fit all. But heaven help me pugs? Outside 24/7? Shame on them. I do truly feel that there are a few well maybe more than a few breeds of dogs that do okay outside, but for sure no TOY breed that I know of.

| Call your local SPCA or Animal Control unit. Explain to them that these two small dogs are outside all the time, barking etc., You don't know if they have proper shelter, food or water. But if someone could please check on them and talk to the owners....they will, they have to, and that is what they do.

| I just called animal control and they are going to send some one to check on the dogs. The lady stated that even though they have dog houses, that particular breed should not be left outside. |
