| Don't hit me...but mine are chipped. They will be chipped tomorrow. Is there a certain brand I should get? I've been looking online and can't get any good information. I know some charge an annual fee, that's fine. My daughter says she doesn't pay a fee...all three of her dogs have different chips. I just want to see if there is one that might be better than another one.

| We have HomeAgain which was free the first year and $15 a year but they help pay for vet and if needed to transport the pet home if they are found along with other extras so it's worth it to me. |

| Plus to the other thing I love is they have an app that list missing animals in your area with a description and picture so you can help look out for the pet |

Some vets & shelters have universal scans which reads home again & avid chips...but some do not. In that case, there will be a delay in getting reunited, so it's best to find out 1st. Some pets end up miles away from home tho.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | This is a very good thread. ONe of the interview questions of a "new vet" you might want to ask is ; what is their policy on scanning new pets to their clinic? And do they have a universal scanner? Also having the chip checked every year is a great idea! I know when I had Magic's Xray's done his chip had migrated a bit, but they were able to find it! Wouldn't it be wonderful if all vets belonged to an on line system, so that country wide when we sent in a missing dog alert, it automatically went out to all ER hospitals and vet clinics in the nation!

| That fee/year is optional. You do not have to pay it....it is for extra services. Once you pay your initial fee, your pet stays in their system forever!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Great reminder for anyone who hasn't chipped their babies. Mine are all chipped. I also have those tags that helps locate your pet if lost. I can't remember what it's called right now. Thanks Linda for the reminder and the update. I think all vets should scan all new animals.

| agreed! microchip your babies! What sucks is usually when someone steals a dog, they won't take him/her to the vet in fear of the dog being scanned for a microchip and that's just terrible. =( |

They have been extra quiet since they were chipped, almost like they were drugged. They have both slept all day. Does anyone know if this is normal? My regular vet doesnt chip, I took them to another clinic in the area.
