Yes sad, so if you ever lose your pet, you must let all the vet hospitals in your area (fax them a picture) to scan all new clients/pets.
Some vets & shelters have universal scans which reads home again & avid chips...but some do not. In that case, there will be a delay in getting reunited, so it's best to find out 1st. Some pets end up miles away from home tho.
