Rubin has a trash thing too he will bark if the trash sticks out above the top of the can. I just empty it. LOL I don't know why it bugs him but it does.
this approach will often work, Lola's is pretty well adjusted but recently we left an empty propane tank on the deck outside one of our doorwalls. She spotted it and i thing she thought it was alive. She watched that thing off and on for two days and barked at it. I finally put her outside next to it, I touched it, touched her paw with it, let her sniff it and so forth, after that it was like it did not exist. I did that with the vac cleaner as well.

My last Yorkie Prissy, did that all the time. I remember one year placing a pumpkin on the hearth. She had a stomp down fit about it being there.
Also moved a doll from one shelf to another and she barked about that also.
Too funny.

One of my guys does the same thing - if I put out a new decoration etc. he'll bark at it until I take it down and let him smell it. Too funny!

Jaeger was REALLY well socialized as a puppy (not at all til 10 weeks though ) and still has this issue. The dog trainer says its a part of his resource guarding issue and to keep very on top of our routine and enforcement of rules until his increased aggression passes in a few days (I know most dogs dont get aggressive about change but Jaeger sometimes does.) If it's a barking issue (occasionally) or a fear issue (almost never with him) I will offer him said object to sniff, or, in the case of a bigger issue, I will stand by the object and offer treats.

Around my house, if anything is out of place, or if something new is brought in, Neo will pitch a hissy like you've never seen! It has become something of a joke between DH and myself, just saying "Somethin' Different!" means that the stinker does not like it and is upset that we did not ask his permission. Thank goodness nothing like that seems to upset Connor. He is pretty mellow about such stuff.

Love reading these cute stories! I love Yorkie barking - shows an attitude. Hehehe. Thankfully I live in a house & don't have to worry about someone on the other side of the wall like in an apartment so I let Tibbe bark a good bit if he wants. He chews out the garbage truck, traffic in the street, school kids walking by the front window, squirrels and cats, postman and all the delivery men - and all visitors until they come through the door. A good round of barking seems to relax him and after a few minutes of barking, then grousing, then growling and then snorting, he decides he's had his say and settles down. But if any of those people he barked at comes in the house, Tibbe is Greeter #1, fawning all over them. So I kind of just let him go & say his piece about whatever is different or new since he doesn't bark forever.

Well I have to update on my girl's. LOL They are all 3 going crazy right now. I am having the fence in the back of the yard replaced and they don't seem to like it. LOL Maybe it's all the noise and seeing the old come down and new going up. They are having a fit about it.

This is hysterical!!! Mine are like this too....Poor Miss Mini when I move. This poor baby spends most of her life in the house because of her severe allergies and her "couch potato like mom" thingy...anyways, this house has been her life for seven years, she too goes batpoop crazy when I change things, imagine what living somewhere else will be like!

I am amused and relieved to see all these stories. My Meika goes ballistic like this when something new is in the house or yard. I call her my little sheriff, as she is always on patrol making sure everything is in it's place. I thought she was a little psycho or something because she gets startled so easily, and then barks at the new thing. Nice to know she's not the only one.

My other 3 pupsters just look at her like "what's wrong".... they don't get it.

I think maybe Yumi has done this a couple times. I thought she must have heard something outside, but Yuri didn't react at all, and he's a real barker. I never thought about something having been moved, or added to the room. It's kinda funny.

I know for certain that one of mine was not socialized properly to say the least when he was younger, and it has been a long road to get him over his fear of almost EVERYTHING. But regarding the barking when things are new to a room, I taught them both the touch command. And when they see the new item and start barking, I now tell them touch... and if they cant reach it, I will go get it down, and they will both work up the nerve to come up and smell it and touch it, and I promise you that they are then fine with it. I don't know if this will work for yours, but it has made all the difference in the world for my two!! Because prior to finding a solution that worked for mine, a towel laid out of place would literally cause frantic barking until I removed the item....so good luck with yours!!!
This is how mine are!!! My husband's son put a bobble head doll on a shelf downstairs, up high. I went to let my boys out and they went running down their usual way and as the shelf came into view, both came to a screeching halt and started barking like mad men. How they saw that doll was beyond me... but they did and clearly it did not belong there! I had to take it down and let them sniff it until they were sure it was not going to cause any harm to anyone, then they were fine with it. Its really funny how many little things they notice!
Most of the time, I let them stay in the room that we are doing something to, sometimes that's hard to do because they are in the way, but if they are involved with the change, they accept it more easily. So last month we took out the living room carpet, put in a laminate floor and got new furniture. They would have been beside themselves if we didn't let them in the room, but we just did it and didn't make a big deal of it and let them come & go as normal and they were fine with it.

My two do just about everything everyone says on here.

The bark, growl or attack certain things moved around or new stuff brought in.

Oh the outside garbage when you put it out road for pick-up, Jack's sits on back of couch and growls at it. So funny.

I do try to show it to them, let them stniff smell or what-ever to let them know here is something new. I have put a tread mill in their potty pad room its been there 3- weeks now. I have no idea why Jack still thinks he has to pee on it. LOL I think he doesnt like it, Josie tries to get on it with me.
