My dog goes crazy when something in the room has changed Has anyone else had this problem? I just brought the carpet cleaner upstairs and she would not stop barking! I changed the flag on the patio and put up a bird house and she would not stop barking at them! Help any ideas? |
Not sure about your baby, but I'm convinced my Coco has OCD. She goes nuts if something, anything is left on the kitchen counter or if the bathroom garbage can is too full. She Barks until I either put it away or throw it away! LoL |
I used to have one that would pout for about a week when ever I hanged anything. The 3 I have now, just watch what I am doing and if I change something they have to really inspect what I have done. LOL |
My yorkie Callie will pout and act mad and upset if we change certain stuff also which is really gonna suck when we move but not sure what you can do about it. |
I've never had this prior to my dogs now, but they both do the exact same thing!! I know for certain that one of mine was not socialized properly to say the least when he was younger, and it has been a long road to get him over his fear of almost EVERYTHING. But regarding the barking when things are new to a room, I taught them both the touch command. And when they see the new item and start barking, I now tell them touch... and if they cant reach it, I will go get it down, and they will both work up the nerve to come up and smell it and touch it, and I promise you that they are then fine with it. I don't know if this will work for yours, but it has made all the difference in the world for my two!! Because prior to finding a solution that worked for mine, a towel laid out of place would literally cause frantic barking until I removed the item....so good luck with yours!!! |
I think it's a consultation issue. Had you thought to discuss these changes with them/it first ? |
Charlie goes bananas when something changes or is moved. Most recently I had 2 carpets delivered and when they sat rolled on the floor in the mudroom he barked, growled and wouldn't get within 3 feet of them. A few weeks ago, I dropped a roll of masking tape in the hall and he wouldn't walk by it, just sat staring at it and growled. We did move into a new home this summer, and he did fine. I think because everythign is new and in a new arrangement. We made sure to unpack his bed, crate, toys and put down the food/ water first in the house while the movers were still unloading the truck too! |
Lol, Pfeiffer is the same way :)! If something new/different is placed on the floor or things are rearranged, she is just up in arms over this assault of the senses. She will growl/bark at things that are out of place -- advancing and retreating and growling, very dramatic. Last summer, we were all on a walk (me, hubs, the 3 furs) and this one house we always pass had a new little security sign in its yard (very small!) and OMG, Pfeiffer was just beside herself!!! It was about 20ft away, not even close to us -- but she just thought it was all so wrong to have that new sign there. Apparently, Pfeiffer's dog-Mama is the same way, so I guess she inherited it. Funny. |
Yorkies notice everything, don't they? Nothing gets past these little guys. |

The last time my gang did a fear bark and stranger alert (all the while backing up) was because of my new crock pot on the counter. I had to put Gracie up on the counter and let her sniff it. Then all was calm again. Rubin has a trash thing too he will bark if the trash sticks out above the top of the can. I just empty it. LOL I don't know why it bugs him but it does. |
One day I made the mistake of putting the trash out a day early and then realized it. I went out and moved it back over the fence to inside the yard so dogs or kids in the alley couldn't get to it and perhaps create mischief. Tibbe took extreme exception to moving it from one side of the boatgate to the other - some 6" maybe! He let me have it for quite a while and for the rest of the day every time he looked outside. That trashbag being in a different place was just so wrong to him! |
My Jewels is funny about change too chachi goes on as normal |
Yes, if anything at all has changed in our house or yard, Tucker goes nuts. He hates big play balls and fire hydrants.. (go figure :/). He is super high strung anyways, so little things bother him. |
