| ![]() wow I'm so glad she is safe. This year it has come to light to all my doggie neighbours that there are about 5 very large hawks that are about 2 feet in height in our neighbourhood I have seen it myself going after a squirrel after being perched on a balcony at my building. Teegy and Tufty are no longer off leash running around outside it's not worth the risk and I'm always doing a full 360 sweep when I walk them because they've swooped a few of the dogs in my area. Do you know what kind of hawk ? |

| ![]() Thank goodness Cali is alright. That's really frightening, I had no idea a hawk would do that. ![]() |

| ![]() No she was not on a leash. She was about 20 feet away from me in our postage stamp sized yard. There is no way I could adequately tell you all how fast this all happened. After it was all over and I had her in the house I found a very small, insignificant looking scratch on her back, but the vet said to bring her, so she got an antibiotic injection just in case. Today she is on alert every time she goes out in the back yard and goes straight to "the spot" constantly. She is very "on alert" it seems. She is not as relaxed and playful in the back yard today, but I hope that may improve with time. All the neighbors are calling her CALI THE HAWK SLAYER. They can have no idea how scared I was. I think we were VERY VERY lucky!! Don't EVER under estimate those preditors !

| ![]() Ever since I saw that bleep bleep hawk on my building I googled and found out all I could. The city apparently brought them in toget rid of the pigeons but missing cat posters have increased in my neighbourhood lately. The city wont do anything for all the pet Owners thr have called in complaints. |

| ![]() Thank Goodness Cali is okay!!! She is my HERO!!! I know that I should not have these feelings about Hawks but I HATE them. We have them around our house also and they are gutsy jerks, they will perch in the tree and glare down on us. Last summer I had Ray Ray my neighbors elderly Min Pin and Sophie Kate''s BFF outside with us (both were on leashes) a dang Hawk ruined Ray Ray's sunbath because it kept circling above us and swooping. I got a little freaked out and came inside shuttng all the patio doors. I was so mad after that day I decided I was going to get a gun and start shooting them out of tree's, that was quickly put to rest when the following were pointed out to me: 1. I live in the city, I cannot shoot a gun off in the city 2. I have never shot a gun ever 3. I do not own a gun 4. My eyesight is so horrible I would probably never shoot the Hawk. 5. It is illegal to shoot Hawks.

| ![]() Yes, it is more complicated because they are a protected species with fines and such if you harm/kill them. The first thing I was asked was if I had killed the hawk, because I would have been in trouble. At first the Animal Control guy did not believe Cali had done the job - he said she was too small. Thought I was in trouble for a moment. My neighborhood is where all the cops in the city live, and they told the Animal Control fellow that Cali was a terrier and that is what terriers were bred to do ![]() Still think we were big time lucky!

I have 20/20 vision 5. If it comes after my baby, it's fair game! ![]() Not sure why hawks are illegal to shoot. DH says they are too. Yet, other predators have a season where try are hunted. Hmmmm. Anyone know?

In some places there is a direct corrolation with their protection and thwir religious significance to indigious people from that region. Some places you can hunt elk others they are federally protected that one has always puzzled me.

| ![]() I hate, hate, hate hawks. Scooter is out in the yard quite a bit and I've run fishing line from the fence to the house and to the pool cage. This is what the Fish and Game man told me to do. I live in Florida and many of our outdoor restaurants have done this to keep those horrible sea gulls away. The lines are too close for the bird to fly in without hurting his wings. It took me quite a while to do it but I feel confident that no stupid hawk is going to risk catching his stupid wings on the fishing line. Did I mention that I hate, hate, hate hawks? Cali you are the greatest. What a super dog. I told Scooter about you and he's totally impressed.

| ![]() Raptors tend to be protected because their numbers are dwindling. Don't know why to be honest they seem to be breeding fine in downtown Toronto. I've punched a rotti in the face but not a hawk but I'm willing to have a go. Thy are sneaky swift and very quiet |
