Thumbs up

Impressive, Cali!

Recently, I spotted a hawk flying above our home. That's why I keep Tatiana inside the house when I'm gardening.

I so thankful that your Cali is OK. I've been so worried about mine this year because we have had 3 hawks in the yard all summer. I stay right with them but my husband says they can still come down a get them.

Please be careful no matter what size your dogs are.
I lost a Chihuahua years ago, right out of my back yard, standing not 10 feet from me......I have LIVED this nightmare, and there is NOTHING as horrifying as seeing your baby getting carried away by a preditor.....except for maybe watching them break your babys back, and watch the damn bird eat your paralyzed baby in front of you, on the ground where they hit her........Christy weighed around 8 lbs. and was probably "too big for them to carry her away".

OMG!! how horrrifying!
I'm so glad Cali is ok, I can't imagine something like that happening to mine...Orion is 11.2lbs, but Raelle is only 4lbs...this is scary. We have falcons around here as well as hawks and owls...mine are never outside without me.

I am so happy she is ok. What a thing to happen. She is a brave girl and I am glad that hawk missed her... only giving her a scratch. You must have been so terrified.

Every time I read about this in one of your posts I try to put myself in your place and, of course, never can. No way the mind can accept this or manage to process what going through that experience can ever be like - it just is one of those things too horrifying to deal with in the imagination. I don't know how you managed the reality of it and stayed sane. Must have haunted you for years and years every night trying to sleep and first thing during the night, every morning when you wake and when you thought about her, saw her pictures, saw her things. Must be one of, if not the, worst experiences of losing one's beloved pet I've ever heard of. I can't imagine how you must hate hawks. I know your story has kept me much more vigilant than I ever was before when Tibbe is out. It's a story one never forgets.

Can't believe my gentle, sweet little girl could do that.
THREE CHEERS FOR Cali !

SO many of us forget that we have little Varminteer Warriors running around the house. All we need to do is get out of the way, and let our little ones do what Mother Nature has stored in them.

I think we need to start a new "Club"... "The Hawksters"

My little Becca (when she was only about a year old) got pounced on by a small Hawk, and the Hawk lost BIG TIME, just like what happened to Calli. My Male Sneakers was outside also when it happened, and by the time I got to them, they had that Hawk in pieces.

The only thing that worries me about such an incident is...
That Hawks are "Fowls", and the remains need be cleaned up/taken away from our little ones ASAP. We don't want to allow them to swallow any of the Bones.

Oh my goodness Jay, I am so glad Cali is okay. She is such a smart girl and now you can add hawk killer to her resume.

Seriously, how scary and glad she had that instinct. Thanks for the reminder to always be on the lookout for predators.

How scary for you & Cali (even though she was certainly a very brave girl)!

I'd want others to know that her actions did probably save her BUT I'd still warn others to be vigilant & not ever leave your pup alone outside.

Thank goodness Cali's ok! That is my biggest fear. We had 2 hawks that were hanging out in my pine tree watching Bailey and it scared me to death.

I was freaked

I am so glad this had a happy ending!!! I am freaking for you... omg

There are very few things I think could be more horrifying... I am so sorry and I just want to cry to think of it!! I am glad you shared so you are saving other babies.. but I think I am going to go now and cry

We have birds of prey in our area too.. but my yard is tiny and she is never out by herself. I used to worry about gators (we live on a small lake.. but our other house had gators in the lake behind us) but with a fence that wasn't so scary as hawks.. ..

OMG! How crazy. Though we've been there. My husband was outside with my mom's dog, Murphy. He was a 9lb Yorkie. A hawk tried swooping in to get him, but luckily my husband saw it in time and scared it off. When Presley was a puppy, one of my neighbors said to watch out for hawks...I've been leary ever since. So glad your Cali is safe.

OMG, was she on a leash with you at the time???..We have hawks that
sit in our trees right next to our house...the other day when I was outside with Emy on a leash, I heard the hawk in the distance, I looked up and he went directly over us, he was huge, he went to the trees and sat at the top...I was ready to grab Emy to my chest when I heard him. Would they attack while our babies are on a leash with us do you think, or just if they
were loose....I watch everyday for the hawks now...scares me...
