| Looking for suggestions!!! I have a 4 year old female yorkie (Lily) that is very spoiled (by choice)!! She is a great dog in that she is totally housebroke and goes on pads, she has never torn up anything even when she is left alone, she is 3-1/2 pounds and cute as she can be!! PROBLEM.....we brought home a 9 week old little yorkie puppy on Sunday (this is following Friday). Lily hates the puppy!! It is a very small yorkie and she is cute and smart as she can be!! I took her to the vet to have her checked over the day after I bought her and he said "she is a healthy little dog"!! Lily is ver aggressive with her and even foams at the mouth she gets so upset with her being in the same house!!! I still let Lily (older dog) sleep with us in the bed and the puppy (Sophie) sleeps in a crate. Can anyone tell me if there is hope that Lily will ever accept her?? If she doesn't do better soon I am going to have to sell the puppy because it is just not worth losing Lily from a stroke or something or losing the puppy's head because Lily growls and bites her every time she is close to her!! Has anyone dealt with a situation like this and what did you do if you have been throgh it?? THANKS Karen |

| i just posted this on jazzyandcompanys thread... keep them separated while your away. I had this trouble when I brought a new mini schnauzer puppy in to our home with an older one. They fought really REALLY bad for the first few weeks. It was so bad that I thought I'd have to get rid of the puppy. We ( my family) decided to work at getting them to at least not fight each other. It took at least a month ( closer to 2) of having both in a room with all of us. We took turns playing with them...one on one, and together. It was worth the time. The older dog eventually took on a protective mommy role...cleaning the puppy's eyes, helping with potty training...ect. They loved each other so much after a few months. It was worth the time we took with them. __________________

| Do you have a puppy play pen you can keep the new one in? Can you gate off part of your home to keep them apart? Sometimes a slow introduction can be better than throwing them in together all at once. It may take some time before your older dog decides she is still the boss of the house. Right now she sees the puppy as a threat to her domain. Don't let them in the same room together but let them see each other through a gate or through a play pen. Give it some time. I hope she calms down for you. |

| We just brought our little girl, Marcy, home tonight...so far so good. She got here at 6:30 p.m., and by 10:15 p.m., she was chasing and playing with Abby (our 2 1/2 yr. old) and vice versa. It took Abby the first 4 hours to size her up, they smelled each other, she played with some of Abby's toys while Abby watched her, and eventually they were staring at each other on the floor and just started chasing each other...we didn't try to put them together - basically left it up to them to see what happened...When my sister introduced a new puppy, it took her adult dog quite a while to adjust and want anything to do with the new one, but now they love each other! Good luck to you. |
